I am 60 now and some thoughts

Is there anyone over 70 on here? Or even pushing 80? I would be shocked if anyone is over 80.

Then again, my mom is about to turn 87 and she posts on Facebook almost every day. Actually most of her posts are pretty good ... family stuff, intelligent political and social stuff. It's not surprising she's still as sharp as a tack since everyone in her family lives into their 90s.

but I digress...

Good question. Perhaps spurred the other thread about who is the oldest poster on this site.

Would really enjoy if someone was over 80 and posting on this site. Gives hope for us all.

Us old timers working out like crazy & staying in phenominal shape should be admired & reverent.

I'm 61 & working out everyday (weights & cardio). Though I can only run about one or two days a week because of post-traumatic OA, I can still run an 8 min mile at 175lbs on a short 5'6" frame. And believe you me, working out every day, especially trying to increase muscle mass at this age, is not easy when your testosterone levels are about half of what they were when I was at my peak levels in my 20's (1980's).

I take no medication other than an occasional OTC anti-inflammatory or acetaminophen for my OA. I'm certainly not chewing up resources in the medical system like so many my age are with their chronic metabolic diseases.

This all hit home the other day when I was shopping at a Walmart with my 22 yr old son. We were checking out our stuff at the self-checkout when a family of three obese came rolling in on scooters. There was the father, probably over 400 lbs, followed by presumably his wife and their young obese son, probably in his early teens, bringing up the rear in his scooter. All three had a difficult time getting out their scooters just to check out their goods & services.

I looked over at my son - who played football & ran track in HS, and stays in phenominal shape still - and said my God what has happened to this country with the obesity epidemic!

Seriously, you've been alive for 61 years and and you're still stuck in the stage where you insist on people admiring you and reverenting you just because you exercise?

I'm 62 years and i can go to an ALVVAYS concert and the lead singer Molly Rankin enjoys talking to me, while the young guys look on.

FFS, what kind of a jerk are you? Some millennial who thinks his sh*t don't stink? How are old are you? Are you my age? If you're even close to my age, can you put your money where your mouth is?

It's like this punk: So many disgruntled millennials complain these days about the aging boomers being so unhealthy not excercising & taking care themselves. They whine & complain that these sickly boomers are straining the medical system costing tremendous amounts of money to treat & take care of them, and so on. So, when you have boomers like me in better shape than most men half my age, then yes we should be put on a pedestal and used as an example.

What cracks me about this is if I posted this comment on the Grandmaster's thread here, there would be no negative response like you've given. Only positive remarks because my fellow fitness enthusiast boomers know what the heck I'm talking about (I only posted this comment here because of the nature of this thread).

I occasionally get into some debates with some of these young hotshot bodybuilders easily half my age at the gym I work out at who harass me because of my age (I was a competitive bodybuilder in the 1980's winning some regional titles and I still have decent physique for my age without using TRT).

I look them straight in the eye & tell them let's see what you will look like when you get my age. Will you even be still working out? Will you be fat, unhealthy, sickly - in & out of the med system? Not surprisingly, they have no answer & walk away. Lol. And I'm not afraid of calling those out who are using gear (i.e., roids, T, SARMS, etc.). Now those guys definitely walk away in disgrace - I have absolutely no respect for them. Lol.

Haha, you really do seem to be somebody who just doesn't feel right about the world unless he's getting non-stop positive feedback. One of the guys I run with sometimes is like you (I'm in my 50s, and he's in his 60s) and he always tells everybody what his latest workout was, and then finishes his tale with "...not bad for a guy my age!" Like he's practically forcing us to say, yes, that's great for a guy your age...you're incredible!

I mean, can't you just work out because you like it and it's good for you? Come to think of it, though, that is another thing that boomers are known for - me, me, me, notice me please please please...hey guys, I won regional body-building titles several decades ago - notice me! ADMIRE ME!!

Btw, that conversation you had with those young whippersnapper bodybuilders ("I look them straight in the eye & tell them let's see what you will look like when you get my age. Or, if you did say that to them and they truly didn't answer you, and just walked away, it's because they didn't hear you in the first place, because they weren't even paying attention to you.

Okay...so, you're Gen X? I thought you were a millennial - I apologize. And I would definitely be praising your 60+ yr old buddy for what he does. Being able to train consistently at that age in a high-impact sport like running is amazing in itself! 🙌 And you being in your 50's - you're no spring chicken either - I'd be giving you praise & accolades for your dedication & discipline to running & working out as well (do you know how many guys in their 50's are overweight/obese, unhealthy & developing cardiovascular disease like crazy?).

Sure, I work out because I like it & it's good for me. I wouldn't workout hard every day plus watch my diet if I didn't enjoy it! I just wish I could run more but some tendon ruptures sustained during my old racing days have caused the joints to become arthritic setting me up for future joint replacement surgery. 😬

And yes, I have had conversations with the young BBs on the gear. I'm doing non-competitive BB myself & also training my 22 yr old son who's contemplating natural BB competition. We're both sick & tired of these guys, both young & old, using roids, T, SARMs, and all that crap & wanting praise & recognition. Aren't you opposed to that also?

FWIW, don't beat up on us babyboomers - if you're in your 50's, you're not that much younger than me. And wait until you get in to your 60's, you'll be complaining about the same things I am. Lol 🤣

I'm 63- 1 & 2 are spot on. I honestly can't believe the younger (25-45 year old) women who ask me out.
