Sure, a school with roughly seven guys sub 9:05, where fifth is 8:52, wouldn't be anything except for those four. FOUR! Four kids at that level! That alone is absolutely unprecedented over the history of any other high school in the country, and this team had a fifth of equal quality just two years ago. But Gary Martin as a 1:49 guy is pretty close in speed to Colin Sahlman, who ran 1:48.8. What I haven't seen yet is whether Martin can change speed and kick hard against Sahlman at the end of a match race. But I do know this: Martin can run 3:54-55 at least in a paced race with competition. And I also know that Martin has more upside in that he has not been trained by the best coach and with the fastest teammates (including a brother he can train with outside of school) in hs history.
