Looked like they tangled arms as Central passed, which threw off the Wilson kid’s stride and then he went down.
If they did tangle arms it had nothing to do with anything the Central anchor did. He seemed to keep his arms tucked all the way past the Wilson runner. A number of punches thrown which is an auto suspension in a lot of states including one guy with a backpack on and it's not clear what school he was from.
How come we don’t see brawls in other events like the pole vault or 4x1600. always events like the 4 x100 or 4x400 where we see this
There's another post on the front page talking about a fist fight between teammates during a distance interval workout. But that doesn't fit your confirmation bias, so you ignore it. Also, where does hockey fit in your narrative?
Also consider that the 4x1600 is almost never run, and there is little chance for contact during that race. Pole vault competitors don't share a space during competition and are not directly competing against each other.

There was a rather famous incident at the start of a cross country race. One dude tackled the other dude down from behind and while he had him pinned to the ground he coiled back and punched him with a closed fist right in the face. Way more violent and ill-intended than anything seen here.
