I would expect someone like Bekele (3:32, 12:37) to run more sub 4 miles in 24 hours than someone like Cheruiyot (3:28, 13:47), but I’m not sure how he would stack up against Ingebrigtsen (3:28, 12:48) or El G (3:26, 12:50) who are elite over 1500m and also have world class 5k ability.
Anyone running 5k at 60-61 seconds per lap is going to be able to jog a 3:59 mile. So I would start there and then try to determine where extra seconds are going to make the most difference (El G’s 6 second advantage in the 1500m vs Bekele’s 13 second advantage in the 5k).
I think Komen might win with a total somewhere around 12, but Bekele, El G, Farah, Gebrselassie, Ingebrigtsen, and Lagat all seem like strong contenders.
