Holy fudge yes! Thank goodness they’ll have people at their league or faster there this time. I think they could get low-mid 16:20’s if all goes well. Aaron could run 2nd or 3rd and maybe get 4:06-4:08 realistically. Colin maybe 4:00-4:01 this go around. Leo could be seeing a 4:05-4:06 assuming he laps little people. And Lex, about 4:07 or so. They should be pushed way more this time so they could either be near the same time as a few days ago or they may get as far as 16:10’s but I wouldn’t bet on it. I’d say 60% chance of a 16:20 and a 30-35% for 16:10’s especially high 16:10’s. 15-20% for 16:30’s also.
Most importantly, they won't have 10 other slow teams that they are constantly lapping and having to run in the 2nd lane to go around them. That alone should save Newbury Park at least 5 seconds.
I see your point, but it's a massive disservice to call those other teams in the NBIN 4xmile final "slow". It's not like those were run-o-the-mill teams they just tossed in the final for decoration. Those were some very talented runners - just not the best of all-time.
It just takes away from the luster. Not the athletes performance. But it makes it a little impressive from a team standpoint.
If every school in the country could get all the talent that lived within 30-40 minutes, we'd already have had several teams with all low 4 minute milers, ten, twenty+ years ago.

So Camarillo is not in NP school district? That makes no sense, you probably should check what school district Camarillo is located before you spread false information.
I'm a big NP fan and can't wait to see them at Penn. However, a little local Conejo Valley knowledge for those not from the area. Adolfo Camarillo is part of the Oxnard Union school district and Newbury Park is part of the Conejo Valley school district.
Kids who come from outside the school district are:
Sahlmans and Youngs from Camarilio
Hector Martinez transferred from Oaks Christian high school and lives outside the district
Aaron Cantu is from Santa Clarita
Jonah Sloan is from Oxnard
Nathan Porter transferred from Westlake high school
Lexi Darley transferred from Simi Valley high school
Samantha Spaulding transferred from West Ranch high school
Not one time during the existence of OAC have all 4 of these athletes been healthy at the same time. Ritz coaches in an all or nothing style. No way OAC will have 4 healthy guys.

I see your point, but how many States have had four guys in one year that could keep up with NBP this year? I don’t think it’s ever happened in Illinois.
What’s happening at NBP this year is so far beyond anything we’ve ever seen before that all the attempts to minimize it come up short in my mind. let’s see what these guys do when there are runners to pursue. Something really epic might happen, as if setting the record wasn’t already epic.

It happens more frequently than you'd imagine.
I can think of several cases where if you take guys who all live within 30 minutes of each other, you'd have a team full of 4:0x to 4:teen kids without super shoes.
It's happened in Northern Virginia, California, Chicago area, Houston area, Oregon and so forth. Take major suburbs with running traditions and you've got it.
I see no evidence that Illinois ever had four 4:07 or better milers in one year. The top times listed on the IHSA site don’t show that. What year are you referring to? It’s probably happened in CA.
It really does not. A Sahlman looks to be the slowest of the group and he has run 8:01 (8:39 2 mile equivalent) and 4:05 and its March. Has there been a single year in history where there were 4 guys in the entire country running sub 8:40 (or equivalent), let alone from one school?
xcfan2233 finds the mark. The Sahlmans and Youngs are historically unmatched as a core four on one US team, one school, at the same moment in time because of their 2-mile and 5K XC prowess, not so much their miling abilities. If each runs at least 8:35 or faster this season it will further confirm their case. Meanwhile, this never-ending business of their school districting completely misses another point. The Sahlmans and Youngs collectively live in the SAME households. No geographic distance apart there. To have the top two greatest US sibling combos on the same team at the same time is truly ridiculous (throw in Nico there). Finally, give the kids and their families some slack. These kids were teammates before even the team's first NXN championship; before NP was a real thing, even in their own region. NP is a national class program because of specifically them and their coach and families, not because of some tradition they were all aware of going in. These aren't, say, NBA stars who were looking to build some Superteam.
Super Shoes. It's not 4:07 or better. It's 4:10 or better.
Again, several instances across the country. I'm not saying it's frequent, but it has occured many times with kids living within 15-30 minutes of each other. Without even having the benefit of training together.

i would love a few examples. and a few more once they do it again outdoors with real competition like the miles you’re choosing to add together.
also no chance it’s 3 seconds even at this pace. see jakob

Wrong. Most of these kids live in Newbury Park. Nice try. 35% of Newbury Park HS is from Camarillo. You get a A for effort, but F for truth
Far and wide? The Youngs and Salhmans live no further than 10 minutes from NPHS.
They have runners from Simi Valley, Valencia, West Hills, Santa Clarita and other areas that are up to 40 minutes away. Only Doshi and Appleford live in the school district from the top 8 boys.
Newbury Park is in the Conejo Valley Unified School District. So are the areas you list.
In California, which all you but, but , but types don’t understand or refuse to understand, there are two rules. School boundaries and district boundaries.
if you live in a school boundary then you are automatically going to that school. Most school districts have open enrollment and students can op to go to any school in the district.
So Newbury Park runners are not breaking any rules. There are many non runners in California that go to schools that offer special academic programs. They transfer within their district all the time.
This rule only applies to public schools. The private schools are in a different world.
I had written about this in our WTW this week. I said I had been told Penn wouldn't let them into the COA 4 x mile but there might be a pro/open event.
I wrote that Penn should let Newbury Park run in the COA 4 x mile. I get why they don't want the best HS teams regularly running college races as then it kills the HS stuff.
But this does the same thing for the COA 4 x mile. IF you are Princeton , who has 3 sub-4 guys or someone, do you really want to waste your time in the 4 x mile on Saturday when you can run in better conditions at night against better teams? The precedent has been set. They are letting HS teams run pro events so why not college?
I think the call now is for Penn to get rid of the COA 4 x mile. There is going to be zero prestige to that now. The sprint fans don't want to watch 16 minutes of strung out distance action anyways. Just have this 4 x mile be the only 4 x mile. You can hand out watches to the top college team - just like they do in the 10,000. They used to have college and open and then it got combined I believe.
That’s a ridiculous idea for an anomaly HS team. NP recruits kids from far and wide. This coach is angling for a college job. He’s going to run out of Youngs and Sahlmans at some point.
College and open were never combined. Do you ever do any research?
WHO CARES? Why so much hate on this board? I want to see NP go out there and crush it. Will they beat any pros? Probably not likely. But running with them may produce some of the best high school mile times we've seen. Additionally, I want to see OAC succeed and set a WR. Everyone hates and doubts on these people. Races like this are GOOD for our sport.

You obviously have no clue about CA geography, school enrollment policies or CIF rules.
Number one, those other schools are NOT part of the Conejo Valley School District. The high schools that make up CVSD are Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks and Westlake. Simil Valley, Santa Clarita, Calabasas, Oxnard, etc are not part of the Conejo Valley School District.
Number two, most schools in The Conejo Valley School district have open enrollment, meaning anyone can apply to transfer to one of their schools and as long as they are not impacted, the school will grant a transfer (either inter or intra district). There are no rules being broken by applying to and attending a school outside of your school or district boundary as long as you don’t lie about or forge a residency.
Number three, where rules could be broken and accusations have been made, is around undue influence. Does the coach, runners, families of runners or anyone else associated with the program have contact with and influence enrollment of any of those transfers?
