it's really really healthy to have someone trying to make a scene in a sport. It may actually get our sport some attention. the unhealthy thing is if the dude genuinely believes he is the supreme leader

I got Will Sumner over him 60m-mile. Fun interview though
100% Cade loses over every distance.
I cringed a little bit watching the interview. There’s one thing in naturally being a bigshot run-your-mouth kind of guy, and then there’s putting it on purposely to get some attention. I was picturing how many times he probably went over his lines to himself in the mirror at home, especially the “raced with bad intentions” one. I’ve seen kids do a lot of stupid things because they want people to perceive them as “the bad boy”. I just hope it doesn’t devolve into Wesfly “beta boy” name calling. Those beta boys are the ones with a lot of money and hot wives.
Listen, I'm a big hater of Smulders and the Wesfly/Alpha crap, but don't lump Cade into the same thing. This was a fun interview, and he's actually a really nice and respectful kid if you know him personally. You act like Newbury Park has been humble and soft spoken this past year... Cade definitely has a lot of potential, not just in the 800m but also the 1500m and even on a 4x4. He'll be exciting to watch at the next level, and his personality is good for the sport. If he goes overboard with comments, I'm fine with the criticism, but I thought he had some good quotes... you don't get to that level without believing in yourself, and he has a chip on his shoulder from being overlooked. Let him be great.
I never even mentioned Newbury Park. And if Cade didn’t want to be lumped into the Wesfly stuff, why would he sign with the Ole Miss / Wesfly team and be talking the most trash of any highschooler? Do you think that’s just random chance? If he doesn’t want to be lumped in with them, he sure isn’t acting like it.
I’m not asking the kid to change his behavior. Say what you want if you can back it up. But there are always going to be people who think you’re a cocky jerk if you’re going out of your way to act like a cocky jerk. Is that hard to understand? When you “play the villain” people will call you out for it, and it’s precisely this investment in or dislike of an athlete that IS good for the sport.
Great race and fun interview. We’ve heard the “I just wanted to challenge myself / trusted my training / followed the race plan” interviews plenty of times…a little swag and variety never hurt.

I agree. Those clowns over at Milesplit fall in love with one kid or one team of kids and that all we hear about to the exclusion of other talent
and just like that mofo is running 1.47.04.
HS record bout to go down

Well, it looks like he'll be a good fit for Ole Miss. An equally obnoxious replacement for the other high school alpha wonder who failed to perform at college
Is this a Dalton Hengst diss?

So you don't think that the youth of America has been trained to hold back their real emotions and intentions systematically over the last 30 years or so? In an effort to minimize the offense to other's "feelings"? How long has your head been buried in the sand?
Sorry, I'm not an American and don't know much about your culture, however your premise just smells funny, is all.
He was filled with bad intent in the race, not in the interview. Some of the best all time quotes in less than two minutes total and no pause to think about answers. That's the kind of stuff we used to say before the race. (Say it in our minds at least.) Congrats Cade and good luck chasing Granville's standard. I bet he loved the interview also.
