She is the most talented runner in the NCAA but is just not as smart of a racer as others.
Tuohy had a prep career where she was the front-runner in every race, and her college career has had limited tactical racing due to injuries. She will be fine with a bit more experience.
Many of the women in the 3k and 5k were not high school standouts. College awards go to the first person across the line. Nobody can predict the future.
Well Tuohy was and just had an extremely impressive national meet. I mean yes, you cannot predict the future. Injuries, illness, etc can easily affect training and performance. Look at McCabe for example. But KT's talent is undeniable. The whole discussion through high school was whether she would plateau or flame out. The New York Times wrote an entire article about it. This site had whole threads dedicated to it. Well Tuohy hasn't. She is faster now than she was at any point in high school and continues to improve. The haters can move the goalposts all they want.
"Ceili was very strong in her first mile at the collegiate level," Cleary said. "Ceili has had a few hiccups training since the fall, but she came out here and ran very competitively."

Yes we are because it was. And what makes it more impressive is what Tuohy did in the 5000 the night before. Does Roe win if she ran the 5000 also? Does she win if Tuohy only ran the 3000? The answer is no on both counts. And even then if the field covered Roe's move earlier or if Tuohy did not get trapped on the rail, she had the fastest closing 600 in the race and would still have had a great chance to win. She almost did anyway. Look Roe ran a great, gritty race. She won fair and square. Posters on here said outright that one of the contenders who was only running the 3000 (Roe or Ryan or McCabe if she was healthy) would try to gap the runners who were doubling from the 5000 early. It was the smart move. Roe made the move and it paid off. She has the title. Hats off to her. But sorry, I don't think she was the most impressive runner in this race all things considered. And so what? Does not change the final result.
One of the most dominant high schoolers of our time kicks for second. This is the second most interesting part of this race. They don’t give awards for how many races you’ve competed in, injuries you may have overcome, running in lane 2, having bad position, or personal drama.
Roe kicked hard almost 800m out. The field didn’t just let her go, Ryan tried to cover but she couldn’t. Roe put the race out of reach by 400 to go. It was an impressive way to win and made for an interesting race. I love that Tuohy is healthy and running well, but credit where credit is due.
Way too much criticism of Tuohy’s tactics. Yes, the positioning was risky and didn’t work out. Give Roe credit, she made a big move and had some fortune with only 2-3 runners trying to cover it. It made Tuohy’s job unusually hard in that sort of race with a big group not really going with the move.
If you wanted to really get after any top runner in this race it’s not Tuohy, it’s Lauren Gregory. She was in excellent position to run down Roe and basically appeared to be content (at 3 laps to go) even though once Tuohy went by her suddenly she had a ton in the tank including a very quick last lap. Had she run more aggressively maybe she gets the win.
would have been a different outcome if tuohy wasnt boxed in or if someone went w roe's early surge
but as katelyn said earlier after the race, its her first track national championships and she'll take the 2 runner-up honors, she wanted to win the 3k, but it is what it is~
shes happy w this meet and she definitely surprised herself too, not only us!
“Would’ve won if she ran faster”
Roe took a huge risk to kick that hard so far out. It was a great performance. It was impressive and exciting to watch. Yet here we are talking about how great kicking in to second place was?
roe was not running faster than tuohy in the last 600 meters, katelyn was running the fastest, 32,32,31 ... but roe's early surge+ no one in the front going w her which made tuohy stuck /// gave her the cushion and the win ... if katelyn was in gregory's place she would have taken down roe .. and thats a factual opinion .. based on her speed adn roe's speed

In fairness it's not one person's job to check a move. Also, I don't know that you blame them, lately, big early moves end up failing...too much of a cost. I really think they thought she burned too many matches and would be easy to cover at end. 31 sec last lap couldn't get her, surprised.
