Do the crime, do the time, once she is free let her be. Hope she learns from this, gets reformed and comes out a better person for this. I doubt she gets 10 years for a first Offense and remember it is usually a Day off for each Day Served, So lets say she gets 3 Years = 36 months meaning 18 Months that would be fair. this could be a good thing perhaps this will save her from an addiction problem, Misery, Homelessness and even Early deaths, Drugs have DESTROYED MANY PEOPLE, hopefully this gets her to avoid any illegal drugs in the future. Drugs are SERIOUS look at how many in the USA in the last couple of years, 5 years or less or even 10 years is still better than death by overdose.
You must be out of your mind if that seems like a reasonable argument to you. You suggest that it would actually be good for Griner to spend 3 years of her athletic prime (and money-earning prime) in a jail cell, all so she can learn some stupid "lesson" that you, in your conceited arrogance, have deemed it appropriate for her to learn?
Do you have any idea how relatively harmless cannabis oil, or whatever she had, truly is? Just because something is labelled a "drug" doesn't put it on the same level as meth and heroin. If they found a six-back of beer in her backpack, would you also support years of jailtime for that? (and okay, other haters reading this, I realize that there is also the issue of obeying the laws of the country you are in, and beer is presumably legal in Russia, but that's a separate issue to what this poster thought she deserved jail time for).
Do you not realize that millions upon millions of Americans have used, and continue to use, cannabis illegally? Do you think they all belong in jail? Think of all the valuable "lessons" that would be learned as you were putting a large portion of the country away for something relatively harmless.
For all you bottom-dwellers reveling in Griner's situation, you ought to at least openly admit that you are against her not for any rational reason - it doesn't ACTUALLY make sense to jail professional athletes for using the most minor drug - but because of some combination of homophobia, misogynism, and/or racism.
The term “superstar” would seem to imply a level of fame that extends beyond the fan base of the sport. I haven’t watched an NBA game since the ‘90s, but I know who Lebron James is. I don’t listen to pop music, but I know who Michael Jackson was. People who don’t follow the NFL have heard of Tom Brady.
So if people haven’t heard of her because they don’t follow the sport, that would seem to indicate that she isn’t a superstar.
I'll give you that. Do you consider Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Candace Parker or Lisa Leslie superstars?

Less than 1% of the US population probably knows who they are

So when Novak had issues with the Australian open the response was to obey the rules and respect the rules of the country you are in. does that apply here?
Watch our lame state department bend over backwards to free her. We'll probably have to exchange a dozen Russian Mafia kingpins and give nuclear cyclotrons to Iran.
