There is not a lot of depth in women's triathlon in the US. 18 min 5k is all you need to be pro level in a sprint. Question is whether she can build up her swim and bike fast enough to get those on par with pro times without getting hurt along the way. She may be a bit too late in the game to really be competitive internationally at the triathlon as it take a few years to acclimate to the demands of the bike and swim. Having a runner's VO2 max only goes so far when you do not put out enough watts on the bike and don't have much strength development in your shoulders.
