She is as far away from a medal as a guy who runs 14:20. Those are just facts.
That assessment actually is not based in fact. A 13:45 5000m male runner is closer to a medal than a 14:20 runner. Just like a 15:40 5000m female runner is closer to a medal than at 17:00 5000m runner. Both are extremely far away from a global medal. But let's not abandon logic when making an assessment.
The real answer is, as Ive said many times, America is the G League of running.
What is your weird obsession with calling things "G-League"? It's not the insult you think it is, incredible athletes working toward making it into the most lucrative and exclusive league in sports.
The womens field is not as deep as the mens field, so comparing her time to the world record is not a great measure. 15:41 consistently puts a woman in the top 25 in the world indoors. It's equivalent to a man running ~13:50.
Her time is like a minute 40 behind the WR. Why are we getting excited about it? Are we celebrating a guy running 14:20? Abby S runs a 22:09 (no. 2 ALL TIME) and we are instead celebrating a performance which is maybe the 23,000th of all time?
I don't anticipate any ncaa distance runner running world record breaking times or winning gold medals. Why? Because distance running on the international level is a PED fueled cesspool and you need to go all Lance Armstrong to just be competitive. Ma's Army ended any remaining illusions. Drugs were all you needed. Not talent. Not running culture or pedigree. Just drugs. That is why no one cares and why following something where there is still the vestiges of actual sport as opposed to chemistry is just more interesting to some people. After the NCAAs it gets pretty joyless. Sorry. There has not been a comparatively clean cycling champion in decades either, so don't let it bother you.
But again if people want to watch pro distance running, have at it. 99 percent of people could not care less, but tell yourselves it is a great show. Go watch those Diamond league races. Its lonely, but enjoy. At least with the Tour de France crowds still show up.
And...so? Essentially you are saying we should not pay any attention to high school or college distance running. No thanks. Its really the only part of the sport worth paying any attention to.

Only if you assume that college running is squeaky clean.
Sprint programs juice with impunity for decades now, why should running be different?
I like to think NCAA distance running is clean. Lets just say it is clean enough in a world where 15 year old skaters get caught doping. Sprinting has always been another issue though. That I tend to agree with.
True but she is 1:30 away while the top guys in the NCAA are less than 30 seconds away.
so what if a teenager tuohy is 30 seconds away from ncaa's top distance runners who are bunch of developed 23 year old runners?
we supported her when she could not run due to a knee surgery, so why would you expect people to stop supporting her now that she runs a 32s last lap at a 5k championship race and WINS !?
WHATEVER TUOHY DOES OR RUN SHE WILL HAVE FANS, GO CRY ABOUT IT.
He knows that. Where is the Olin Hacker thread? He won 3k and 5k in that manner over some of the top NCAA runners. That is his question. Tuohy won a ho hum race over her teammate. She could have stayed behind her and finished 2nd if she cared more about the team.
what a proud dumass, she had to get a qualifying time, its her first 5k of the season
if she stayed behind hays, she would not have qualified in the nationals

WE ARENT SPRINTER FANS, SO WE DONT CARE IF ABBY STEINER RUNS FASTER THAN USAIN BOLT
