Galen Rupp - 2020 wins Olympic Marathon Trials 2021 8th place Olympics 2nd place Chicago Marathon
Where is he not showing up?
This is the issue with American distance running. Yes, he won in Atlanta...against other Americans. And what happens in the Olympics? The Great One flops to 8th place and takes second in a Chicago marathon that had to compete with other majors all happening at the same time.
It is bewildering to me why we still cannot have any American born athletes consistently compete on the international level without the help of Al's special sauce.
Allow me to reiterate, because you are correct in the sense that he shows up, but he only shows up against select Americans in manicured fields designed for him to run well. I don't even think it would be a hot take to say that Mantz, even Fisher, could take Galen in a half right now and Mantz up to the thon.
I’m pretty sure rupp medaled in the 10k and marathon In the Olympics so idk when we will get a guy do that again but Rupp is still considered the greatest American distance runner of all time. He’s what Ryan Hall should have been and what Ryan hall wanted to be. Even hall admits his mistake was leaving the track completely during his road racing years. That’s the mistake I hope rupp doesn’t make but looks to be making.
If Mantz races two times before this half, and tops Rupp at the half, I might have to be a fan of the old man. After all, we've been waiting forever for someone to actually RACE now and then.
big egotistical crybaby = 1:50 Mile, 2 mile US record, 3K US Record, 5K 12:58, 10K US record, 10 Mile road record.
Not sure what the problem is, but I have noticed you repeatedly citing Rupp’s “1:50 mile”—which is pretty innocuous because people will assume it’s a typo, but has now become weird—as well as his illusory “10 Mile road record.” I’ll tell you again: Rupp has never set a U.S. 10 mile record. His 46:24 puts him 6th on that list with a peak position of #4. Herb Lindsay has held that record since he ran 46:00 in 1980.
Huh? The course record is 59:24 set in 2007 well before supershoes. Unless they changed the course id be shocked if times were as slow as you suggested.
Showed up when it mattered most. Which carries a lot more weight than her time at Mesa half or whatever.
Sandy P has a point. Molly has run quite well in a few challenging marathon environments being the olympics trials which was very hilly and quite windy that day, then in Tokyo it was quite a bit hotter than desired, so warm that only half the Kenyan/Ethiopian crew finished the race which helped her finish third. Then she ran pretty well at New York which again is a challenging course that isn't ideal for racing fast. She recently ran the Mesa Half Marathon which is downhill, she faded a bit the last several miles to run 1:10 so it didn't look like a strong run. Many other people just ran that or better in Houston last month, and Mesa is a net downhill course. Molly doesn't seem to have the wheels to be top American on a flat or shorter race than a grueling marathon course. She was 8th in USATF cross champs in January so apparently she's not at all competitive with the top group of Americans at 10k. If the conditions are not ideal to run fast she will do well as she seems to keep the same pace no matter how bad the conditions are or how challenging the course is, but if it turns into a track race she will not do well compared to other people.
I'm not sure she ever said the Mesa Half was marathon pace. She did run it in a 130+ mile week. Actually ran 20+ miles on race day and then another 20 the next day. She has also said that she loves racing and loves competing. A fast time will come in a competitive race rather than a time trial setup.

Why is that bewildering? It's a dirty sport.
It's bewildering because we can't even dope at the same level as the E Africans (or Norwegians)
You trippin. How many US 10k championships did he show up for? Was it mistaken identity him lining up three times at the olympics? Also has showed up for 1000s of drug tests and passed them all. Unlike Schumacher's girl.
She said it was marathon pace in her Strava post with the race data. I don't really see that as an issue, despite the naysayers here. Who doesn't test out goal race pace at shorter distances?
On this course I’d be shocked if Connor or Rupp run faster that 61:40. Expect Rhonex (if she’s not 5kg heavy like he’s been) or another E African to win in about 60:35.
Nobody is running under 60 minutes on that course unless you bring in the best.
I think people forgot the course was changed a couple of years ago — starting in Brooklyn and going over a very steep bridge.

Are you tripping? I meant specifically for the marathon. Read, and then reread before you respond. I will argue that Rupp left the track and shorter road race scene WAYYY too early. But, roads are where the money is, can't really blame him.
