I think it'd be better to have net upvotes like there were previously, rather than an upvote and a downvote counter. Just helps tell a little quicker the response to a post.
Overall seems like a step in right direction. Noticeable decrease in trolling. People seem less inclined to carry on a 3 page rantpage when it's openly displayed to everyone that they aren't getting any support.
Only people I've seen complaining about it more than once are known trolls. They hate it.
I'm quoting this to emphasize the first part of it. But I'm not going to upvote it because I disagree with the second part (48h is way too long, I'd say 5 min max).
tl;dr: Great improvements while keeping the aspects that make LetsRun great!
Praise:
- Up and down voting is a great way to voice support/disapproval without "+1" posts or the like. There are a lot of posts that warrant commendation, but don't need a substantial response. Also, it offers a less biased read of what the community here actually likes/dislikes.
- Everything looks cleaner, while keeping the early-Internet vibe.
- Don't let anyone walk you out of unregistered, anonymous usernames. That's what makes this forum so open and special.
One design suggestion:
- Insert a bit more empty space between the last line of a post and the +- votes. Make up for it by slightly decreasing the font size of the votes.

5 min is ridiculous short.
Ok lets say 12h edit time frame.
To me 5 minutes is fine. If a typo has slipped through I usually spot it seconds after I click "Post Reply". A longer window may give trolls the opportunity to engage in revisionist history with their posts, especially if they get into a flame war with another troll.
But whatever the window, I agree agree that there should be an opportunity to edit. There is probably a term for typos that are invisible in Preview but glaringly obvious once posted.
So far, I like the changes. Adding downvotes/upvotes was a very good change.
Allowing an edit feature, even if it only gave you a five minute window to edit, might be nice, also. It sucks to realize you made a typo one second after you click reply, while realize you're going to have to reply again with a "* -----" correction, or prepare for the insufferable grammar and spelling-correction outcasts who cannot help themselves.
Getting rid of unregistered accounts would also likely help. Having registered accounts with made up screen names still allows adequate anonymity, without the troll-encouragement on steroids, which is totally unregistered accounts.
Allowing private messages might be good, too. For example, there are people on here that do coaching, or are looking for coaching. It might be nice to be able to exchange contact info without that being seen by some of the severely disturbed trolls that lurk here.
Finally, how about getting the occasional elite to do some live Q&A's, or at least write some articles with commonly asked training questions. That might increase the value of the site, while also improving its standing with the pro's it covers.
generally agree with this. I think especially the idea of removing unregistered accounts. No one knows my name, just my handle. I think that’s enough anonymity for serious users, while cutting out the BS. We can still troll as a joke.
What needs to be cleaned up is the ability for anyone to troll serious posts or post inappropriate language/content with out backlash from the community. It’s fine to post those things, but users need to be held accountable to their words.
I would remove the downvote icon or remove the vote system altogether. I hate the like system on Facebook and Strava because it's just a popularity contest.

1) Add a 1 - 5 minute window for editing out typos.
2) Add the option to block unregistered posters.
3) Don't just hide the posts of the blocked trolls; also hide their text when someone quotes it.
5 minutes seems to be what other sites use. You can also change an up/down vote within that same time frame. On other sites, posts which have been edited are noted as such (edited).

12 hours is waaaay too long. Will open up a trolling can of worms. Ideally you want to the post locked efore it gets any replies.
Standard is 60 seconds. 90% of problems are spotted right away.
- On Firefox (desktop), if the vote counts get into double digits the two numbers end up stacked vertically instead of being next to each other as expected (e.g. 18 becomes a 1 on top of an 8 on two separate lines). This is fine in Chrome.
- The padding between posts gets messed up sometimes (maybe related to links?). See the bottom of the first page of this thread, where Flagpole posted about the original LetsRun logo - the post below his doesn't have the correct top padding, it overlaps the bottom of Flagpole's post. This is in Chrome and Firefox.

#3 is a big one. Does no good to remove the posts from some one you’ve blocked if they just show up when another poster responds. Same goes for inappriate posts that have been removed by the mods.

You people are really not able to live in the real world if you are so worried about seeing someone else’s posts. Are you really that fragile?

Thanks.
I’ll take a look at all of these and patch as appropriate.
Interesting idea about quote blocking. Implementation is a little tricky because we allow people to quote and trim, etc. But I think we can do it in a way that’ll be mostly effective. I’ll make a note of the idea.
We are considering the edit option. To do it correctly requires a little database work (to store revisions, edit time stamps, etc.) but nothing unreasonable.
