Fisher won multiple PAC 12 titles from 1500m through XC, he won NCAA 5 k, his senior year he won Millrose 3k breaking Galen Rupp’s indoor record, think he was runner up in the NCAA XC, indoor 3k, outdoor 5k to Morgan Macdonald of Australia.
yea his NCAA was a lot better than I thought after looking it up. Definitely pretty solid but again, I think at the time for a phenom that won two back to back footlockers, I think still more was expected of him at the time. I would say the point I was trying go with, at this time people would fight on the message boards fehmetely on who was better. Now however, there is no argument on who is better. It’s even funny to think of their sponsorships. Adidas bet big on Hunter and idk but I doubt it paid off. They do have a relatively large social media following but idk if that has translated to the $ they are giving Hunter.
I did remember this and actually got watch it live. Tbf he knew ahead of time who he had to beat and who he didn’t as most didn’t have the A standard. So in my mind he only ran as hard as he had to make the team and took no risks he didn’t have to.
If that was true, it's shameful. It was the US championship final not some meaningless prelim. I personally think Hunter always races all out except when injured and sometimes even then.
Only he knows if it’s true but in the race he didn’t go with the leaders who were going for the A standard. And I’m the last couple laps he was looking behind every 3 seconds to make sure the other people who had the standard were if no threat. He made no noticeable surge to try to ever catch the ones ahead of him. I think it was his plan and the only plan that made sense if your end goal is to make worlds.

He was badly injured and making the best of a bad situation. I'm not a big fan of his career, but let's give the guy some room here.

Thankfully his coach, coach Miltenberg at Stanford didn’t overtrain Grant, Elise, and Sean.
So many coaches in the NCAA, when they recognize future greatness they train/race them into the ground for short term gain, bonuses, recruiting purposes - the list goes on.
Drew is still young. He’s been injured and is fighting his way back. He hasn’t magically lost his God-given talent. Sometimes you have to suffer a step back after taking one or two forward when coming back from injury. He’s made some great strides forward recently. He won the road 5K. He was only 3 seconds off the win at Millrose, running a 7:42. That is nothing to sneeze at. Give him time and my bet is he’ll be better than ever. Cream always rises to the top.
crazy to see the discrepancy in results from TME. brian had a huge race finishing in 1317 and jamaine and jordan ran pretty well. then at the bottom there was drew (literally last i think) with sam, cam and joey all DNFing?
One group eats burritos and the other one doesn’t.
Ah thanks. I wasn’t sure. So a bit of a better NCAA than was in my head. Idk which is better NCAA champion or worlds team? I feel worlds team is tougher but I’m sure some would disagree.

…and “the most heavily-rationalized career in US distance running history” (me, a couple weeks ago) continues.
Statements like that when people go pro are statements that I don't understand How do we know he or Cain would have been any better if they went to college? They at least got paid.
Dude got a minimum of $2.5 million. 10 years 250k per year.
But Rojo, you used to say that someone couldn’t go pro unless they won an ncaa championship. Have you softened on that stance?

You can’t use the word “fehmetely” and expect anyone to take your opinions on anything seriously.

He is NOT still young.
He has NOT made great strides forward recently.
These are called “delusions.”
Holy cow, Hunter is going to be called "still young" until he's 35 isn't he? He's been a pro for 6 YEARS now. Where do you Hunter rationalizers think this big performance jump is going to come from? He doesn't have any new training partners, he still trains in Boulder, and his mom is apparently still following the Tinman formula anyway. He's been leapfrogged by guys many years younger than him at this point. He's not really "still young".
Fischer also has a Stanford degree in a real major which be invaluable when his running career is over.
You’re on the 3rd page of a thread about the guy, and you still can’t spell his name correctly?
I’m sorry, but I’m a real Karen binge this morning…
haha you’re right. I just don’t care enough to get my spelling correct. I knew I had “vehemently” wrong but didn’t care to go back tbh lol. I’m just trying to make a point that they were once intense rivals but now it’s a one man show.

Drew has that indoor us track title too
And I assume you both realize that Fisher finished 5th in the Olympics last summer?! Currently, there is no comparison between Fisher and Hunter.

Wasn’t it always kind of clear that only one side (both the inner circle and LRC fanboys) viewed it as an “intense rivalry,” and the other had bigger things in mind?
I mean, it literally was never considered a rivalry in high school. They rarely raced. Grant won FL twice, indoor mile twice, and Dream Mile twice. That fateful 2M race where an extremely hungry Drew surprised an extremely not-hungry Grant (who had just completed his very long journey to breaking 4:00, and then ran 4:00 1600m at his state meet, and then defended his Dream Mile title against Drew) is where the “rivalry” spawned. So it technically started AFTER Fisher graduated high school! LOL.
But yes, time has taken care of things, hasn’t it?

Drew's 5k PR from outdoor track would put him 14th in the USA for this indoor track season. There are 8-10 guys that haven't run a 5k that would beat Drew's time - such as Teare, Hocker, Centro, Nuguse, Beadlescomb, Chelimo, Nico Young (hasn't run one recently), Ben True, etc.
He will run some personal bests but he will NEVER come close to making a world or olympic team again.
