Imagine if you were a high school phenom coached by a legendary person who came out of absolute nowhere to break a long standing and tough high school distance running record set by one the most revered high school runners of all time.
Now imagine that, instead of praise, encouragement, or excitement for the future of US distance running, you were consistently trashed on, called a cheater and a fag, and the owners of letsrun piled on to this behavior and encouraged it. This was Galen from the time he emerged until about the time he won a medal at the Olympics.
Now go back and read the first paragraph again. This description fits both Galen and Hobbs Kessler. If people talked the same way about Hobbs that they did about Galen, do you think he would be creating a social media presence so that he could be bullied into oblivion by the legion of jealous haters here? Or would he just go out and let his performances talk for him?
