Thinking of quitting my high school basketball team, should I do it?

The coach deserves to have been shown up.

We had meetings with the AD yesterday. He pulled me out of class to and to the principal's office talk with me and the other guy, a junior, who also quit the team (he is our starting quarterback).

I explained that I left because it made little sense to put sophomores in when they didn't know the plays very well, only practiced with us for three days, and would not impact the season at all at this point. I also said that if the coach does not like me, he should have not taken me on the team to begin with. I pointed to where I had 14, 10, and 11 point games and worked really hard on defense but then would sit out two games in a row with zero explanation.

My dad went to the school last night and had a similar conversation.

The AD is disappointed in the coach's decision, but he cannot make the call on who get's to play and who doesn't. The AD then appointed me to help with a leadership program for athletes along with a teammate. The leadership program will be put into place for future seniors to set good examples for underclassman, so I'm grateful to be selected for this despite everything that happened.

Stick with it my dude and eventually go pro. Besides you are so close to dunking in a game

He should have met with the coach before the next practice to tell the coach he was quitting. We’ve only heard one side of the story. Him quitting at halftime shows a lack of maturity so maybe he was undeserving of more playing time. There were seniors on our HS team that only played in the last 2-3 minutes of a game of that had already been decided and I never heard any complaints and someone quitting at halftime would have been unthinkable.

I just went through this thread again. 4 players quit this team in one season. If it’s just one guy…than I feel differently. But that’s like a quarter of the team gone before the end of the season. I don’t that happens unless you’ve got some clear leadership or coaching issues.

It's POSSIBLE OP is outright lying since this is the anonymous internet. And the account of experiences from seniors in your high school is SUPER fascinating.

Barring an outright lie, given all that's happened and his meeting with the AD the coach doesn't deserve any consideration. Actions like that send a message.

A HS kid walks out at halftime and quits the team. The AD decides, "yeah, that's the guy I want to demonstrate leadership to the younger underclassman." Somehow, I think NOT!

I don’t why or how but I remember this post. Is that terrible coach still coaching? I’m guessing not? Whatever happened to you OP?
