But I wasn’t strong enough. Of any track workout that legendary Dr. Doug Clement dialed up. He has some great ones.

That’s a long long list of people destroying me on long runs. I think Deena had me for lunch on a couple of 10 milers. I actually lied that that singlet was Kennedy’s. It was actually Steve Cram’s so I fooled you ! I got soft running all those 8/15 so I lost my steeple toughness after my freshman year. I ran 8:43 twice that year. Never ran faster. Incredibly sad he is gone. He was a father figure to all.

Very very high. Joe had an issue getting “ hurt”, and that effected his career. People always ask me “ what could joe have run?”

How about this for an answer.

The MF won NCAA cross country, 1500m and 10K on the track. Some hellacious 3k / mile indoor doubles when they 3k had heats and there was no 5k. He anchored a still standing DMR at Penn record from the 80’s. He won Pre a couple of times and the Stud won the Dream mile in 3:49. I was there warming down watching ( I was in the losers B race) and it was unbelievable!!!

Instead of asking what Joe could have done, let’s celebrate what he did do. Guy was a stud.

Uh.. I know Hot Springs Village, and I am pretty sure there is no track located there. Perhaps, however, you raced a gaggle of retirees in their golf carts? That would've been fun to witness.

Great question. There is different forms for average race pace, and kicking pace. The longer the track race, the more the difference. An 800m is typically who slows down the least the last 200m so it is unique. A 10K has drastic changes of pace typically over the last few laps.

Runners forms are entirely different for pace and kicking in a 10k.

The 1500m if fast, can be more of a survival with just holding form at the end as opposed to a blazing last 150m. Guys like Hocker can run “ pace “ for most of the race then pretty much transform their form into more of a sprinter. This form recruits different muscles than pace and uses the main muscles slightly different. It also takes the uncanny ability to run incredibly relaxed when you pull this off. Look how relaxed and smooth a guy like Centro is in the homestretch. Just incredible how he can relax and kick at the end of a race.

Stewart hasn’t quite perfected the relaxed kick at the end. Hocker doesn’t quite have the strength yet to kick off 3:30 pace. Off a slower pace shocker can relax, and turn on his sprinter form, which is a joy to watch, unless you were Centro at the trials.

When two opposing runners like this meet it can be very exciting. Watch the 1974 commonwealth 1500m for an ultra exciting race between a non kicking front runner and a bunch of big kick finishers. One of the best ever 1500m.

Of course the answer is …… where ever Jamey Harris was living. So yes, when he was at the Stable, it was the Stable. When at the Oasis, it was the Oasis. Diner has too many issues.

Great insight. Johny Mac was pissed at a few of us for going out to a disco one night, so he chased after us in said golf cart.

Now Gabor had a skateboard so he was fine but the Taylor twins and I just ran away as fast as we could. Now Doug Clark, being Doug Clark, had actually measured off 1500m on the pathway and timed the effort. We were able to submit the times ( we all broke 3:40) by using Bill Clinton as leverage and promising 5% of Conley’s kid signing bonus when he went to the NBA. True story. Just ask gabor.

Not a coincidence but an alignment made up by gods. And Di Napoli could kick! We had a dual meet against the Italians one time and he closed in 35 seconds last 300m! Went by me like a train! Falcon was not actually of Italian heritage. Spanish was his claim.
