This should be a 3k type workout. I'll say sub-4:30 & 9:30ish. Some HSers don't have good strength because they don't have lifetimes miles or don't do a lot of workouts that target that. I would expect more developed runners to be able to run 3200 @ what they can do 6 x 800m in off of decent rest. Maybe they go a little slower. 90s or 2:00 might be a better indicator.

That kid can probably run 4:25 for the mile, because the workout gets faster and involves several 2:20s at the end. That's 4:40 1600 pace at the end of a workout. High schoolers are more speed than endurance oriented. He should be able to go considerably faster for the mile. For the two mile, it indicates that 4:44 pace is pretty easy. The rest is significant, but still, I think this guy can run 9:20s for 3200m (4:45 pace). I was probably capable of going just under 10 when I ran 5x800 in 2:25-2:28 on either 200 or 400 jog, and in sub-16 shape. I ran 4M tempo at 5:12 pace around that time.

he ran 4:41 on the track, and he ran 15:54 XC 5k

When did he run the 4:41? Because that workout is NOT a 4:41 guy workout (even with the very-good-for-a-HSer 15:54 to back it up from the strength side).
