That's not counting all the at-home tests and people who know they have it but couldn't get a test.
Also doesn't count the 90% of people who are positive but have no symptoms and don't get tested at all...

We don't know what it stems from or if it exists for sure. The hospital census in MD at least is reaching critical. We don't know how many are delta vs omicron. All of these things factor in. Pray they're a lot of delta is my advice.
One thing there is not a lot of actual evidence for? Omicron is mild in naïve hosts. Many SAfricans had prior illness or a vax.
Before you make any further comments, realize I have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline.
Sounds like you wasted a lot of money on that doctorate degree.
You may not be aware that graduate students, at least in well-funded, high-impact schools and labs, are paid for their time.
I got free tuition (50+K/yr) and a generous stipend to live on. OK, not that generous, but it was adequate.
Was exposed to an Omicron case but will be traveling to New York City in a couple of days regardless.
I don't for the life of me understand why public voices aren't shouting from the rooftops that obesity is the first medical condition listed by the CDC as a risk factor among adults AND children. The risk of severe covid "increases sharply with elevated BMI"....."substantially increased risk of admission to hospital/ICU." 42% of our population is obese, and substantially more are overweight. PCP's should be calling all their obese and overweight patients and telling them that they are over 100% more likely to be hospitalized than healthy individuals. This is not fat-shaming, this is the reality in America but for some reason it's just never addressed.
It's still irresponsible to infect others. The world hit a new daily high of 1.6 million cases today and the U.S. hit a record 465,000 cases. Now you might say that COVID's become harmless. It has not. Daily deaths in the U.S. from COVID rose to 2017 and 1777 a day the past two days from 1200-1300/day prior. If cases rise enormously while virulence decreases by less, you still get more deaths. We're unfortunately going to see a lot of COVID deaths next month.

No. Just stay home. Please

Why and for how long?
Nah. Just get everyone to have omicron and get it over with. That's the way out now.

Give me omicron and you bleed
Jill Biden does not hold a PhD. Your rant is tired

Thanks so much. I certainly hope that I don't see you around! 5 days is all you are advised to do but it's too much for you. Again, thanks so much!

Omicron doesn’t seem to have a high totally asymptomatic rate FWIW. The study of the super spreader event in Norway had a 96% symptomatic rate.
Omicron can lead to very mild symptoms, but a sore throat, etc, are symptoms.
I agree it’s quite possible tons of infections are going undetected in many places — which might explain the weird peaky dynamics in South Africa. Encouraging data on mildness.

I probably have it, I have a scratchy throat and some fatigue and a low grade fever. My son had similar symptoms a few days ago.

This is the correct response, thank you. (For real.) I have 3 shots & am 1000% done with the b.s., Test and trace me when I'm passed out; until then, I'm not a nurse nor elder caretaker, and my unmasked kids are fine as they always were after the sniffles; get effed.
I’m all for living your life if you’re boosted or hybrid immune, but anyone who knowingly goes into crowded places with flu-like symptoms is just an a**hole. This was true before COVID. Wear a good mask or stay away from people if you’ve got symptoms.
