And yet, I think the vast majority of people declining vaccination are making the wrong decision for both themselves and for society. The risks of being hospitalized/dying from covid is much higher than the risks of serious adverse events from the vaccine for nearly all demographics. I'm a doctor myself and I'll fully admit I was nervous last December, but now we have over a year of data and the vaccines still appear pretty darn safe.
I'm curious to know - and not looking to judge or troll - if you are unvaccinated - why?
Lean & fit, still relatively young. If I was 15-20 years older I've no doubt I'd be comfortable getting vaxxed. Vaccination is a no-brainer for seniors and even younger people with obesity and other comorbidities, in my view.
Was exposed - wife & a couple kids had Alpha variant - I wasn't affected. My immune system has always been super-strong. It won't be a respiratory virus that kills me (unless I live into my 90s maybe).
Old enough to know that everything in life has unintended consequences. If a drug is effective it probably isn't safe. If it's safe, probably not effective.
These mRNA vaccines seem to offer a temporary immunity boost, but it's looking more & more like OAS is a real consequence of them, and I'd just rather wait for a true sterilizing vaccine if one ever becomes available.
Generally - the "minuses" to the vaccines keep piling up as time goes on, and the "plusses" seem to fade away. Seeing too many people out there making decisions based on panic rather than sound reasoning. Of course, everyone has different risk tolerances and that's fine. I'm not risk-averse as a general rule and that's served me well in life so far,
