He got down to 52s on short rest at the end of a workout of something like 16 or 20 times 400m. He can run 1:44. He just has not been trained for max efforts at 800m. It wouldn't take more than a month of specific training for the 800m in the summer for him to run 1:44. And I think he must be able to go faster than that. Look at Cram. He had nothing like the change of gears that Seb Coe had, yet with 3:29 and no fast 3k time, he still ran 1:42.88. Ingebrigtsen ran 3:28.32 in the Olympic final, his third 1500m in Tokyo, and leading the first lap, so he could surely have run 3:27 low. I think he'll get 3:26.xx in 2022.

I think he might be too heavy for the steeple WR tbh. Look at all the Kenyans that have run fast, they are all like 5'6 and 100 pounds soaking wet. Dragging that extra weight over the hurdles might be too much. I think he could probably run around 8:00 or slightly under, but 7:53 probably out of reach

Evan Jager, who has run 8:00, is(was?) 6'2",146. Ingebrigtsen is 6'0", 145 and could blow Jager off the track at both 1500m and 5000m.

Its moot point because Jakob will never run the steeple again. The steeple is for guys not quite fast enough for the 1500m or strong enough for the 5000m.

Cram had the gusto to race 800m at European Championships. Cram was not afraid to allow the pace in big 1500m races to split 800m slower than 2:02. I was being generous. J. Ingebrigtsen will not sprint faster than 47.50 F.A.T. 400m. J. Ingrebrigtsen will not race 800m faster than 1:45 F.A.T. 800m. That's okay. J. Ingebrigtsen is a 1500m/3000m/5000m man. Wasn't John Walker a 1:44.9x F.A.T. 800m man? Walker still allowed 1976 Olympics 1500m to 800m split, 2:03.xx & 1200m split, 3:01.xx. J. Walker is one of only a few 1500m men to split final 300m faster than 38.00, Olympics 1500m final. J. Ingebrigtsen does not have it in him. J. Ingebrigtsen does not believe he can race sub-1:45. J. Ingrebrigtsen could not do what Matt Centro did, 2016 Olympics 1500m final, split final 300m 38.00. If you're right, J. Ingrebrigtsen will race 800m at the next European Championship. He won't.

Yeah I dont buy that, when was Jakob measured? His brother Filip is listed at 165 lbs, and they look the exact same. Evan Jager is a stick, Jakob looks like he is carrying way more weight than him. It says he was 144 lbs at the Ineos challenge 2 years ago and he looks bigger now, probably over 160. Would probably be one of if not the heaviest steepler to break 8:00 by a wide margin unless im missing someone.

Elliott was simply burned out. He had reached the pinnacle of success (wr mile/1500, oly gold) and saw himself as having nowhere to go.

His training at Portsea Friday through Sunday with Cerutty was extremely hard, and I think with a new wife and business opportunities, he just wanted to get on with his life.

It would be nice to see Jakob compete until 2028; but I think 2024/25 will be the end. He has already been living like a science experiment since age 6, and by 2024 will have been training 18 years. If Walker/Coe began their training at age 15, then it seems to equal out a bit more.

Jakob's 5k win may be even more impressive than his OG in the 1500 meters

Saying he's been living like a science experiment is nonsense. A lot of very young tennis players are sent to academies in Florida that are equally as unpleasant as anything Jakob has done. When he won a gold medal at Tokyo I really doubt he felt like some kind of experiment. Doesn't he have a girlfriend and doesn't have to have a part-time job? It sounds like he's living a pretty good life. During the amateur days, some elite runners had full-time jobs in order to support a family.

When he goes for a run tomorrow morning I really doubt he will feel exhausted from having run at age ten. All elite endurance athletes train hard and an extra 4 years or so makes no difference. I've read that Jakobz started training at age 10-11 but certainly not at 6.

If Jakob once more comes out to the next season one level up he will be superior to Timothy.

And the notion that Timothy wasn´t at his best in the Olympics is wrong:

Timothy ran faster than he did in his much acclaimed Doha 1500m final win. And that with a deliberate slow start (much opposite to Doha). Timothy also set new PB in the Monaco 1500m so I will say Timothy ran up to his very best in 2021.

Timothy´s problem in Tokyo was that Jakob ran more than 3 seconds faster than in Doha (and so did Kerr).

I would suggest that you listen to the podcast interview posted earlier in the thread. I think it would clear up some misconceptions that you might have developed regarding his process since age 6 as well as his current feelings.

i was the one who originally put those numbers out there - i'm not a yakob fan and i think anyone who thinks yakob can run 1:44 is an idiot.

you can't gush about the scientifically optimized aerobic training and the lactate meter and then turn around and say "well actually, this guy is ALSO faster in the 400m and 800m than people who do real speedwork year round"

i don't care if he can run a 52 20 times if he can't run a 48 once.
