I had COVID as well after getting vaxxed. I ran 3 days in and felt worse on day 4. I ran again on day 7 and was consistent after day 10. By day 20, I was running better than before COVID. I think the rest was very important and the fitness came back quickly. I had read of people training through the disease and having prolonged effects.

The OP has not been vaccinated. Your story has no relevance.

Who said I was trying to be helpful? Anyone who is eligible for the vaccine and then booster who has not gotten it is a moron. The OP has not been vaccinated. That was dumb. I've seen similar things in many people that have had bad viral infections (flu, bad cold, etc.) you have general fatigue near max exertion for months, times don't recover to baseline for months, a whole season feels "lost" as you know there was more there. It's fun! Don't push a moderate respiratory infection into a serious one.

You are a healthy and fit teenager, you are (1) not stupid for not yet getting the experimental mRNA vaccines, and (2) will very likely be fine within a week. Tone down the training, meaning you may just want to go for jog each day until you feel better; that may mean 8-10 minute pace. Get lost of rest, clear your sinuses regularly, eat well, drink fluids and get basic vitamins daily. You have a very bad cold, but obviously if you can breath enough to still be running then it is not hitting you that hard. Do the same things you would do if you got the flu, and as others have noted don't overstress your system. SInce you are young and have waited for the vaccine this long you may also wanted to consider something more effective like the upcoming Novovax or potentially the US Army's protein based vaccines. These are simpler vaccines that do not put widespread intracelllular strain on your body. Good luck and don't overdo things and you should be feeling good within a week or so.

The OP is a kid and not in a category vulnerable to severe disease. It was probably wise to wait for less sketchy vaccine options. When the crazy liberal child abusers learn to calm down and shut up, maybe we will be able to solve this whole pandemic in a logical fashion. Until then we are just stuck with an emotionally damaged youth population and overzealous use of novel tech that is only putting immune pressure on the virus that is rendering the ineffective mRNA vaccines almost useless already. Be helpful or leave the kid alone; he just needs to take care of himself and he and his track season will be fine.

There is a difference between pointing out something that is within the space of possibilities (long haul covid that sidelines an athlete for months), and stating what is likely to happen. If OP was so drained that he couldn't do any exercise, then I'd say there's more of a chance he is experiencing a severe reaction. However, severe reactions are the exception, not the norm. As you both have now mentioned, any respiratory illness should be addressed with intention. I join you in advising people to go easy, fully rest even, when experiencing covid. I too had a mild case of covid, I ran easy (but maybe should have not run at all), and I felt pretty much back to normal in a running sense within a week.

What you guys are doing is pointing out the worst case scenario and acting like that is the expectation. What good does that do? I've certainly heard of people getting the flu and then getting pneumonia and dying. However, as that is not the most common result of flu, I would not expect that to happen in most cases. That doesn't mean I deny it could happen, and I wouldn't be overly surprised to hear about such a case. But, if you tell me you have the flu, I'm not automatically going to assume you'll be hospitalized with pneumonia.

Covid could wreak havoc in the human body, but for most cases, it doesn't. If that makes me a moron to not jump to an alarming conclusion based on data and to state what many authoritative sources state (most covid cases are mild), then darn.

What makes any vaccine sketchy? You sound like you get all your info from NewMax and Natural-RedState-News.

Any serious athlete makes a poor choice when they choose to not get vaccinated. As many other posters have said here a serious COVID case will hard your performance for weeks or months.
