Ryan Hall says he was tired of feeling like a Wimp, so he stopped running and started Lifting.

Long distance runner from age 14 to 34. He tired of it and looked for something different. He found it and will stay with it for a short period of time until he finds something else. Age 39 now, it will be interesting to see what he does athletically in the future. The Podunk 5K in 29 minutes at age 50 is the type of outcome to be expected.

He'll probably be faster than your best "Podunk 5k" time at 80.

There's a chance you will mature out of your ignorance but I doubt it. Like a toddler you assume your own opinions hold true for everyone alive. They do not.

How is that more useful? This is a world of specialists. Running a sub-5 mile gets you nothing. Benching 200+ pounds gets you nothing. To make money, you need to run closer to 3:50 or bench 400kg.

I could not agree more, which is why I said what I said. Women prefer physical strength in a man. And it’s not just the aesthetic quality or the appearance. Go much deeper. This stuff is primal. Why do women like muscles on a very deep level? Muscularity indicates actual power and strength needed in the natural world to thrive survive and fight other males for protection or procreation. Society has obviously changed since the Stone Age, but that stuff is still in our brain/dna even if we choose not acknowledge it. Same reason why guys generally are attracted certain bodily proportions on women (child bearing stuff), healthy looking skin, proportional features on face. Etc.

Again, this not the primary reason to lift, for sure, but it’s part of the equation.

Dude, consider what you are saying from the opposite perspective. Guys are not attracted to fat, ugly women. They may marry them, and enjoy being with them, but all of that is in spite of their physical condition. This is a normal defense mechanism for the wimpy guy: insults, adopting a facade of sophistication, strained arguments against what is clearly true for anyone with eyes to see.

Unfortunately for them it won’t change the truth.

It seems there's a lot of insecurity about physical appearance on Let'sRun, lately. Threads worrying about looking older, looking too thin, looking too muscular, too fat, not fat enough. What do women want, which women want what, and so on. It's understandable. Self doubt is human.

You have to make a decision to be secure and happy with who you are. You have to please yourself, not someone else. Decide what you want to be and be it. And if you can't be what you want to be, be happy with what you are. There's always someone better off, or worse off. But only you have to live with how you feel about yourself.

If you want to be muscular, be muscular and happy about it. If you want to be thin, run far and fast, the do it and be happy about it. If you're happy underweight, overweight or somewhere in between, that's great. Own it.

Be happy with yourself, first. That breeds a confidence that will make the rest fall into place.

I’m here to tell you that all men should lift weights. And as I said, the reason for doing this really doesn’t and shouldn’t have anything to do with physical appearance and seeking the approval and attention of women.

You will be happier if you lift weights and are strong. For many reasons. Some obvious. Some less obvious or not understood.

Your last statement is totally wrong. Happiness is a product of competence and discipline. You cannot nor should not be happy if your actions and life are not in harmony with certain self-evident values. To give an extreme example, a person is not going to be very satisfied with a life of undisciplined laziness, self-indulgence, dishonesty, etc. You can’t just tell yourself to”be happy” and feel good about yourself. It doesn’t work that way.
