Tinmom Hunter doesn't seem to know squat about running

I will volunteer for Jamin's new training group, to be coached by Jamin. We can call it Jamin Elite. Maybe letsrun could crowdfund the team, so I could quit my day job and hobbyjog full time - this would certainly make it easier for me to compete with the Lost Boys of Boulder.

What's my workout today, COACH?

On LRC, the same few haters gonna always hate Tinman Elite, and/or Joan Hunter, and/or Reed Fischer, and/or Drew Hunter, and/or women, and/or men, and/or high school kids, and/or Biden, and/or Trump, and/or probably puppy dogs & ice cream, and on and on and on, if given the chance. And the haters are given the chance on LRC. Nothing new here!

Good luck to Tinman Elite and their current coaches. To them, I say you have many supporters, even if every race isn't a new American record, and even if none of your runners are currently king of the hill and may never be. I'll still root for you to succeed, on your own terms. If that means a 4:02 runner hitting 4:00, I say GREAT!

Yes. It's ok for Sara Hall to be coached by her husband or for the Ingebrigtsen's to be coached by their dad, but being coached by a woman is not acceptable in these parts.

I haven't seen any threads about the equivalent of Tindad, as if having your father coach you were like being a child again. Nor have I seen the attacks on Sean Brosnan suggesting he knows nothing about coaching. They question his coaching ability but don't claim he is ignorant. Her record shows she is a better coach than the vast majority, and built up a tremendous program, dominant in Virginia and nationally. There are thousands of high school coaches. Only a dozen or two win multiple national championships in any generation. College coaches go through a process that in no way guarantees excellence. In some cases, they have a record of great success. In many cases, they just knew someone.

Honestly all this post told me is that you don’t know much about the marathon scene. Panning and Given are both excellent runners.

Are we seriously citing her Hs coaching career? She had how many boys transfer to her school for how many consecutive years? I can tell you I’ve been to nxn several times and during the chaperone/coaches social hardly anyone even bothered to talked to Joan because we all knew her success was due to transfers. Anyone with half an ounce of know-how could coach that team to relevancy.

I disagree that Reed's time was impressive. He's BARELY beating no-name Americans that have real full time jobs. He beat Wilkerson Given by 14 seconds. Who is he? He beat Zach Panning by 20 seconds. Again, who?

Reed needs to get away from this group. He's about the only one left on the team with any heart.

I just spent some time listening and reading her interviews and look, I think she knows how to coach teams, but she is very very transparent she doesn't know about marathoning and marathon training and that might be OKAY for the talent level she is assigned. Sometimes going all Canova or all Daniels is not the only way. Perhaps she uncovers some breakthroughs with her group. Obviously, the 2:14 was bittersweet.

Is it still a debut if you've started other marathons and not finished them?

And historical debut times are going to be affected by shoes making people 2+ minutes faster these days.

No, one of the luckiest coaches in the last decade, had a really good couple of years when her very talented sons were running for her and a bunch of really talented kids moved in to the area. Not much before or after.
