Very good joke but any shift towards western diets will only make Indians far weaker and sicker, especially with regards to inflammatory and auto immune diseases (diabetes, obesity, mental disorders you see skyrocket in the west) Indian traditional diets will do fine, investment in sport is the obvious missing piece of this puzzle

Sports is just not valued in Indian culture. With such a high poverty rate, getting an education to be able to compete for a good job is far more important. Sports is just a distraction in the Indian culture.

Re Vetter’s trash talk, I saw that before the Olympics. It was… very German. To him, he probably was simply stating facts. After all, he was easily throwing beyond 90m, and no one else in the world can right now. To a casual fan or observer it comes across as extremely arrogant.

A good article in the IndiaExpress that came out before the final, but after the prelims, mentioned that Vetter had been having issues with techique the last few weeks, and hoped to figure them out before the finals. Guess he didn’t. Good article.

Really look at what all strong men, eats Beef and more Beef. Practicing Hindu's don't eat beef and portions sizes in India aren't what they are in Western countries.

I grew up eating a traditional Indian diet 2 to 3 days a week and it was small amounts of chicken, with Roti(fried bread) or Dahl Puri but my style was Indo-Carribbean .

My grandmother ate a traditional Indian diet nearly every meal as her maternal lineage traced back to India.

I'm speaking from nutritional knowledge (body building) and family history.

Enormous levels of ignorance about India on this thread from some, likely those who haven’t lived in, visited, or have friends from India.

The majority of the country, actually nearly three quarters, eats some kind of meat. Hindus that constitute about 80% of the population tend to avoid beef, probably for cultural reasons today more than religious ones.

Hinduism unlike other major religions is very diverse in how it’s practiced. It’s not accurate to say Hinduism forbids eating beef because there is no such prescriptive religious text that says so. The cow is revered like a mother because it provides milk. There are some very ancient scriptures (in Vedic script that hardly anyone can even read) that say that “cow slaughter is an act of gross ignorance” (sort of like Aesop’s fable about killing the goose that laid golden eggs). But there are also all kinds of other animal killing “sins” preached in some Hindu sects, for example, killing a cat (for any reason) is heinous and requires much more laborious atonement measures than killing a cow. Ancient Hindu texts do forbid animal killing because it’s cruel but don’t forbid meat eating (hey, nobody said religions are logically consistent), so most Hindus happily eat meat.

Can't get milk for human consumption on a large scale without killing the calves and non-producing cows. India is the world's largest exporter of beef.
