To get essentially straight on a plane after a draining US Trials (mentally because it always is and physically because it was 90 degrees + every day there and this does have a cumulative effect) and cross time zones to race what 3-4 times then back to the US before travelling across the other side of the world in another 2 weeks time makes zero sense. ZERO.

So getting paid the get in the best training (racing)....is a dumb move? You should manage athletes, they'd love you as an agent LOL

It has to be true bc LRC is where you find only THE BEST running insight, like how Murphy is washed and will be 4th at Trials.

There needs to be a clause in the US Olympic Trials that if your form sh*ts the bed between the Trials and Olympics (i.e.. 3 straight sh*tty performances in a row for Murphy), you can be replaced by the 4th place finisher (or the next finisher with the A standard) at the Trials.

We'll call it the Performance Maintenance Clause

It does no good for the US for the runner to blow their load for the Trials and be wiped out for the Olympics. Murphy is inspiring no confidence whatsoever and he's supposedly our #1 guy we're sending over. I am not picking just on him, wtf happened to Hoppel?

The reason people think that 1500m final will be fast is that Tim Cheruiyot has relied on this tactic repeatedly and did it successfully in his 2019 World Champion race, which he ran in 3:29. It's been dispiriting seeing Hoppel's form fall so far from his early season work, and now to see Clayton Murphy follow. But they may still rally. Murphy has been training through meets, and it may just take a few days of rest to get it back for Hoppel. Both at various times this year have looked like an Olympic favorite.

Does anyone have link to stream of the meet? The Youtube page we were using to watch all BBC coverage of Diamond League meets got suspended :(

I am banking on Murphy for the gold.

I think he is preparing himself for all the heats. He is probably emulating exactly what he will go through in Tokyo, running 1:44-1:45's without breaking a sweat, and in succession.

I London Murphy went out hard, and was right there with 200m to go. I am sure he had enough in the tnk to blast the last 200m, but it was not his training plan.

No one will remember these races. Only the Olympic champ is remembered.

Centro and Murphy will do just fine.

"slow race" lol everybody on here can't even run 1:44 but well call it slow. Harris is the real deal. He's been battling injuries and finally got some consistent training.

They’re obviously training through it. Hard to race an 800 on tired legs. Everyone’s getting their panties in a bunch over nothing
