Excuse me negative plot. People assume a positive split is advantageous in an 800m and it is but only up to a certain point. Her negative split was better than going out in 55.

Love the video. She is literally dragging her feet at 60-sec pace and then opens up wonderfully to put away the field and nail the 1:57. I just envision her in an Olympic level race being towed along with other equivalent talents, letting them sprint it out the final 250m. Could be so, so interesting.

From the video it looked like about 59.6 on the first lap. I am always impressed by any runner who negative splits an 800M race. If you've ever run this distance you know what I mean. It looked like she either sped up or the field slowed down with 300M to go and then as she entered the final bend she gapped the field by quite a bit. Funny thing is she doesn't look like she's running fast - she must cover an awful lot of ground with every stride
59.7/57!! 1:55 is surely on the way. This will be a huge challenge for Ajee' Wilson to beat Mu. Gold medal is surely on the way. Once Mu ran that incredible 600m indoors at 16 (1:23.57, #2 all-time world indoor), you knew this was a great one. Taller than the rest of the field by far, thin, not muscular, no indication or need for drugs whatsoever, but ....

Never saw it coming. Kidding. Delivered on her promise. She’s amazing. Form, speed, work ethic. I imagine she will only get better. Beating Raven as HS athlete was a prelude to this result. But anyone who is surprised was not paying attention. Impressed yes, but surprised not at all.

Absolutely ZERO chance of that.
I wouldn't be so sure. 1:57 as a 18 years old college freshman with very little experience in 800m. In a right race she could go 1:56 this year.

This is an 800 mark that finally jibes with her 400 abilities and the fact that her endurance is solid. Given the negative split, you have to expect a 1:56 is in the cards if a race goes out in 57/58 and she can push from 300 out.
