Were you sore? Happy? Intelligent? Confused?
100 mile week takes a different breed of human: a superhuman that is unlimited (Eliud Kipchogay).
Did your shins hurt a lot? What about your quads? Did you have to eat a LOT of food? Did you gain lots of muscle? Did you SWEAT a lot? Did you get blisters? Did you CHAFE? Share your stories please!
I hit them as base training in the summers. I could only do 5 or 6 in a row before I broke down. I followed Arthur Lydiard’s plan which one of his staff sent to me: M= 10, T=15, W=12, Th=18, F=10, Sa=20, and Su= 15. Oddly, Thursdays were always the hardest day. Answers: sore? No. Happy? Yes. Intelligent? Never sure I was doing the right thing, actually. No shin, quad, or other problems. Always ate a lot. It was not as hard as outdoor season where we were racing 1 or 2X a week + speed work. Folks forget Arthur recommended “jogging to loosen up” in the morning too. I did that a few weeks and that pushed me over 130 miles. That was too much!
