Quitting College Team

You don't hate running, you just don't like it right now.

Quit respectfully and don't blame anyone or burn bridges, stay friends with your teammates (they will likely be great friends for years), and give yourself some space from running. It'll come back when you have the time for it and can prioritize it better. or it won't, but you'll probably look back on your running as an important part of your life whether you pick it up again or not.

Also, your personality is not as a runner. You'll be fine.

Trust me, I understand how big and difficult of a decision this is. I quit my college team and didn't really run a step for over 4 years, but those teammates/coaches are still great friends 15 years later and memories are some of the best. I also got back into running again and it's been great. More patience and perspective and time for it.

It's a big step to get to where you are, so you should feel good about that.

Do set up a meeting with your coach. Present all your reasons. If the coach is a jerk about it, then you know you made the right decision. A good coach will listen, present counter-points for you to think about, and give you a window to change your mind. Be able to leave the meeting on good terms.

I was an important part of our XC team in the previous fall and was all-conference. I likely would have gone on to score points. If I wasn’t recruited to the school, I wouldn’t be so worried as I am now. I am afraid they’ll try and strong arm me into staying in the team.

Send him a text or email stating the truth; that you are relinquishing your position with the team in order to focus purely on your academic and career goals. Thank him for the opportunity, wish him and the team the best success. Sign off with "Go Quitters"-ot whatever your school mascot is, (joke), and then lock him or her, or ignore any emails.on the edu system.

I quit the team. My life sucks more than ever. Maybe I will quit college too. I can’t wait to hear from some spastic boomer on here about how I am a quitter and a loser - I already know I am a quitter and a loser. I accept that. I do not know how I survived this past semester, for ever day is so difficult to get through.

So in short, if you had sucked it up and stayed on the team you would have been starting by mid-season after the old coach got fired. Instead you felt entitled to the spot and quit because you didn't get your way, proving that you are probably just as douchey as the coach you didn't like. Congrat's!

What you said is really good. If you wasted your time in sports don't worry show your best in studies.
