But in his race recap videos he said he was feeling great and noticed that the others in his pack were huffing a lot harder than he was. His Strava shows that his HR was steady in the mid-160s till the last few miles. That doesn't sound like a runner who was hurting in terms of effort 5 miles in.
He did go from heading up the chase pack to trailing the peloton right after 4 miles in. Stayed back there for a mile or so and then rejoined. Love a good mystery. Me thinks Seth knows what he's doing creating these 'controversies'. If nothing else, you got to admit, he's a damn good videographer. Vids are top notch.

The production quality really is incredible for an essentially one-man operation that vlogs every day.
Maybe it was something religious. Seth is Catholic.
He probably saw a Biden/Harris sign left in someone's yard. The thought of four year's worth of socialist oppression almost broke his spirit, but he realized Florida didn't go blue, so he regained his composure and continued to run on "Pure Hate."

He touched an altar boy?

This video from about 4:00 to 7:35 is mile 5-6 of the race.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUocXogritQ&t=999sI don't see anything except that he moves to the back of the pack here. I'm thinking that he just had a side stitch or something like that.
"...and it happened around mile 5"
After going back and carefully reviewing the chronology of that video, and synched up with Seth's play-by-play video, is it more than a coincidence that at that point in the race (i.e., around mile 5), some random older guy is jogging on the left side of the road, they pass him, and he seems to be maybe starting to say something? You can see this guy exactly at the 6:00min mark in the video Ganbatte posted.
Don’t trust the fart!

Something else happened (deviating from the monotony of the miles) exactly at the 6:30min mark of Ganbatte's video, and it was accompanied with some weird audio sounds.

Forgot to mention, that this incident also "happened around mile 5".
Another thing that 'happened around mile 5', is that out of the six guys running in that pack, the two guys wearing the AlphaFly's start to take control of, and start breaking up, the pack.
At 7:40 a biker who was working the race is motioning for Seth's video guy to get off the course. It happened more than once during the race. Not sure what the race organizers were upset with as there were lots of bikes out there & this guy seemed very respectful of the other runners.

The incident at 7:40 looks like he is being motioned to stay right on the out-and-back (i.e., not necessarily to get completely off the course).
My two thoughts were it was a random mental moment of quitting mid race or someone made a personal remark to him maybe about his mother which would be absolutely horrible. 2 completely unlikely things but just a thought.
Something happened...but I'm not telling what happened....but something happened...but I'm not making excuses....but something happened.
My guess is that at mile 5 he shouted some swear words at a QAnonTrumper and it didn’t go along well with his image of work hard and love each other etc

Reviewing the video around the 6:30 mark, it looks like Seth knocks over a couple water bottles at the aid station (my understanding is volunteers do not hand out cups as in pre-COVID times and there were no elite tables with bottles spread out), a woman whines something inaudible, and it sounds like someone yells "Nice job Jerk!" at Seth.
Maybe Seth was shaken by the incident and thinks he needs to:
(1) practice grabbing bottles at 5:00 pace;
(2) discern a way to show gratitude to race volunteers.
Maybe.
Here's another one:
Around the 5 mile mark, he sees the guys in the AlphaFly's are still just cruising along, and eventually crush the pack. He wonders if he needs to rethink his decision on selected race-shoes (he opted for the VF's over the AF's), but doesn't want to come across like he is making excuses. He decides to figure it out in future training, and maybe will eventually share that detail after further investigation.
:-). Cheers!

Starting @15:45 in that video, check out the high back-kick S. Martinez (who eventually blew the pack away) is getting in those shoes. But notice, @15:54, it appears he has tape on his right knee. The high ballistic action those shoes can induce may exact a price. Seth mentioned he wants to get in more strength work in the gym.
