I think it's time to admit Tinman training is good enough to keep up with the big boys. Quite a good showing for them and Reed Fischer would have been right up there, too, if he had raced.
This. Fischer was actually favorite to win out of the Tinman Elite group, he was in better shape than he has ever been before. He recently closed a 7-mile progression run at high altitude with a 14:20 5k, indicating 60/61 minute shape (that's the pace of a 60:30 half btw, not even adjusted yet for an obviously faster pace on non-altitude course!).
He would have raced, but since COVID spiked in Boulder, and fearing he picked something up (despite 3 negative tests), he decided not to start and give up this opportunity to win and set a huge PR just to protect all the other competitors. What an athlete, putting the health of others in front of his own performances, despite being in all-time high fitness!
So one Tinman-trained athlete won the whole thing (he just left the team few days ago), despite training for triathlon and spending 20-25 hours/week on that that could be focused on pure running and recovery. The other one, Sydney Gidabuday debuted a HM with a 1:02:32! And the best HM runner out of the whole squad didn't even participate in that race (Fischer).
I guess this will finally convince a lot of Tinman haters that his training is actually really good and leads to success.
1) "them" - there was only 1 Tinman Athlete in the race - Syd. Morgan doesnt train with TME and hasn't for a while.
2) it was Syd's first half, ofc Reed would've been likely to finish higher
3) closing in 14:20 is fine but doing 3.1M at HM pace is very different to doing 13.1, and his PR is 61:37 anyway, so it's nothing mental to close in that time.
4) pulling out for 'fear of covid' when your training partner goes and competes anyway..................sus.
5) you could argue Tinman contributed to Morgan's success only as much as his high aerobic engine from tri-training does.
6) I expected quicker from Syd, but I'm not up to speed on the course or conditions. I was expecting 61:59 minimum.
