Outside of Teare (who is talented enough to overcome the absurdity), none of these vloggers will go on to do anything, especially the guys murdering themselves for no reason up at Rollinsville in July. Are you GingerRunner perchance? You just laid out the script for one of his YT vids. Seriously, I watch a lot of his stuff while COVID running in the basement. Same endless vids of Western States, Leadville 100, shoe reviews, etc. The content may not be thrilling but it keeps my attention during 60mpw of hobby hobbling.

Except for the usual cynical disrespectful people chiming in to put down people who are trying to do stuff.

As a hobby jogger myself, I am interested to learn more about the good runners out there, and not just about their latest race times. The video production doesn't need to be world-class.

People who aren't interested, aren't being forced to watch.

Just a typical LetsRun thread where hate runs rampant and jealousy abound.

There's a 99% chance most of those kids in the videos have run faster than anyone commenting negatively about them. Teare, Reed Brown, Silva, Spencer Brown, Ari, all the Tinman crew and probably others I forgot are all among the NCAA and US elite.

But yeah, let's hate on them for dedicating their summers training together in attempt to get better. Guess you all want them to stay at home and get drunk everyday while running on flat hard surfaces not at altitude so that MAYBE your lame training and race times don't look so bad.....

And as far as the YouTube videos, God forbid they have a little fun and try to make some money on the side. Terrible humans they are running hard and having fun!

The only thing I watch on YouTube is the Spencer Brown videos (aside from old races). I tried to watch a couple of Tinman Videos but it seemed immature (guessing I am too old for the content), similarly Zack Levet came across poorly to me, but I think I am too old!

It is interesting to see someone on a journey and the addition of Ari broadens things a little.

I personally love it, to the point that it's hilarious. These folks have swooped into town over the past four years, reaching a crescendo the past 6 months. In a sense, it overshadows what had been here before, the status quo culture. I like the hip vibe, Boulder had gotten stuck in its ways and now there is a critical mass pushing progress. I remember Noah Droddy being the media darling in 2016 and at this point he's been indexed with Pfeffer, Coogan, and Scotty Larson to the past. Nothing at all against Droddy, he's all class, it's just that this new wave is washing over the town. And it's a good thing, it's time to move forward and forge new legends to get past some of the old school that frankly didn't want to summon progression. In short, there was too much Boomer hangover.

Ben Crawford has some good videos and that one kid that ran like 22 miles at 5:45 average was killing it.

Like you, I also watch a lot of YouTube running content when cross training indoors. As with any media, some of it is very good, some is outright cringe worthy, and most is forgettable fluff. I do have to say that the ultra folks really understand the game well. I don't have any desire to do one but, the documentaries about Badwater, Western States, UTMB, and the athletes that do them are pretty compelling. Really good production and great stories to tell.

The shoe review videos have hit a saturation point. The formula is all the same: over caffeinated mid pack (?) guy opines about a shoe without much context. Some presenters know their stuff while others just try to be personalities while saying things like, "For $180, I wasn't feelin' this! Boo on the Nike design dudes for these kicks. Y'all gotta step up your color game!" as their objective opinion of a product.

I'll give the younger kids a pass. Evidently, baking disasters and buying smoothies are what top collegiate athletes do when they are not running?

I can't stand all the shoe reviews. Usually they are so glowing. It's like every week "this is the best shoe ever!" If every shoe is the best, is any the best? Makes it hard to decipher the good from the bad. Millenials--it's okay to be negative sometimes! You aren't hurting anyone's feelings, I swear. That's not the worst part though. The worst part is that these videos seem to garner the most views/comments. It's like there's a whole class of runners that only cares about "tech" and bloviating over whether they should choose the skechers go run ride hyper elite 7s or the skechers run go ride hyper lite subelite 7s. Come on, bud. Just go run.

I really like the videos where they show the heat of training, the journey, the ups and downs. That's a story. I feel like the Welsh Runner was doing the best job of this pre-Covid. Maybe his videos weren't the flashiest and they tended to be a little long, but I loved them.

Who is the guy doing 'Run Steep Get High' ultra videos? It appears he runs an ultra race management and video outfit and posts lots of YT videos. He's made videos of himself and others on all the big ultra race courses and in training. He's tried Barkley several times too. I always picture him with a gigantic water bong on a coffee table.

I agree with others that perhaps the kids are annoying but I really enjoy the ultra videos. They provide lots of info, some fantastic scenery, gear reviews, etc.

FWIW, I read too that youtubers, once they get up to 50K followers/watchers can make more than 10K per month or more. Not a bad way to make a living if you develop a following.

More 500 bucks unless they are getting crazy money for promoting products(they aren't).

i'm training in a town northwest of boulder a few thousand feet higher. pretty much every run and workout alone. wouldn't trade it for anything.

the Ben Crawford videos are great. Captures a lot of the day-to-day stuff that makes being on an NCAA team so much damn fun.

A good antidote to endless trail-crunching in pillow shoes.

A lot of the "media darlings" of the past - Droddy, Masters, etc. aren't indexed, I would argue they're just married, have a job (Master's works for the Feed) ,and have a home life. Let the kids who are new in town put out content, and usher in this new wave, but you don't have to dismiss the older guys who are still relevant but just doing other things. Both can be true.

That's actually what I'd intended yet stated poorly.
