We have universal healthcare. Walk into the ER today and you will be taken care of on the spot. Walk into an ER in a socialized country and you most likely will be sent home unless your injuries are life threatening. Try to stay on the scholarship topic now.
I’ll take “socialized country” as a euphemism for country with UHC, since the two aren’t the same thing and the point we’re discussing is healthcare not socialism (I’m pretty far from being a socialist or even a liberal). US does not have UHC, I’m not sure if you know what that really means. The two overseas countries I’ve lived in the longest both have UHC (Korea/Singapore) and have some of the most immediate, high quality healthcare at a cost that is a fraction of the US. I’ve lived in Europe for over a year but basically never went to a doctor then so can’t comment. But the US healthcare system is one big mess, yes people get free, overpriced ER treatment and guess who’s subsidizing it? My brother and I were in a hospital a few months ago and heard a woman demanding an ambulance to take her home because she didn’t want to pay for an Uber, after a few minutes of annoying them the hospital ended up capitulating. I don’t know exactly how hospital accounting works but I’m pretty sure they would have added that as a revenue write-off and cases like that just jack up everyone’s premium and the overall cost of service.
