What up with Floberg? Is he injured/sick? He mentioned that he's signed up for Grandma's Marathon on June 21, although his goal race is Chicago. He was flirting with doing Marathon Project in late December.
He has probably realised he doesn't love running as much now that he's running 80 miles a week, puking and pooing every workout to lower his PR by a minute at a time. He thinks he should be knocking 10 mins off his PR every run
This man literally said he’s going to run an OTQ in a few years. I can’t wait for it.
Apparently floberg’s kid got hit in the eye with a baseball bat today and he feels compelled to write a text story about the incident on his running instagram and Strava. My sincere sympathies for that happening as it is horrible and glad the kid will be ok..but in all honestly why do these main character shoetubers truly find a way to post anything and everything happening in their life on social media. I mean cmon his son getting injured isn’t even related to running…I can’t take it anymore man lmao. Any normal person who is a parent wouldn’t find it necessary to use their child’s unexpected injury as an opportunity to turn into a public broadcast. It’s wild to me how these people really are wired different that they need to post things to get interaction regardless of what it is. It’s like an ego addiction or they need to get validation and comments about things. Hilarious
I was behind floberg at a grocery store in Chicago yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen gels in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the gels and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each gel and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
...gets into the elite hotel and documents the elites being cheered by the hotel staff before they board the bus. Then he takes endless selfies with his buddies at the end of the race. Then he says "The Boston Marathon is not perfect, it can bring out the worst in runners, especially on social media." Pot, meet kettle!
I know it was busy and tons of people were recording but the clip of Connor Mantz and his wife felt invasive. Maybe just the way he edited it and slow-motioned it.. and then he asked Connor about it after the race I guess to bring it full circle? it just felt like he really wanted to capitalize on an emotional semi-private moment and it was a bit icky.
Ben is Running came down to run the Folkstone 10k and was an absolute gentleman.
Friendly, self effacing, encouraging of other slower runners, just a good guy with no ego at all.
I don’t understand the point you are trying to make? The guy has a YouTube channel. That’s an embarrassing career (no offence but it’s simply not an accomplishment). Why are you pointing out that he acts exactly as any normal person would? His contribution to society is making YouTube videos. Thats not the kind of guy a girl brags about and brings home to meet the family. I bet he also poops. Why not point that out too? Have you met any other unexceptional people who behaved normally?

Many, if not most, jobs are complete BS - read David Graeber's book. Even jobs you think are not BS and - in theory - contribute (e.g., teaching, scientific research, medicine) can comprise 90% or more pointless tasks.
If all Youtubers/Influencers disappeared, the world would arguably be better. However, sadly "being a YouTuber" is now a dream job for kids. In some research (revealing part of my BS job) 3000 kids were asked what they wanted to do when they grew up. A third wanted to be a YouTuber three times more than an Astronaut.
My point is, in the eyes of young people and probably the non-intellectual circles Ben moves in - he has the dream Job! All his peers will probably be estate agents and recruitment consultants - he lives a glamorous life in comparison.
For sure his girlfriend will brag about what he does: paid to travel the world, run, and meet some track super stars! She even managed to quit her fashion designer job to be his assistant - perhaps a career more vacuous than YouTubing.

Two points to counter as stupidity still running high from ppl who know nothing about running.
Firstly,On won't be disappointed as 1 .. yes 1 non elites starter went a few seconds quicker, who should have been in the elite women's field really, as they understand how running works. That runner was under different race conditions.
Please see previous points on women's only WR, double standards on pacers then forgetting that counts from the uneducated here.
Secondly, professional runners make very little from running. If the job is crossed with content on YouTube it's because athletics doesn't pay. Bully's on here slagging a pro athlete performance need a good hard look at themselves.
Exactly, too many tattle / hobby joggers have found this thread and clearly know nothing about running.
Conditions were tough on Sunday, I don't personally know a single person who hit their goal. Plenty of my friends and club mates from the championship wave bonked hard in the heat and faded considerably more than Phily did, from like mid 2:20s by 10-15mins+ in the final 10k. Also, I'd wager that a good percentage of us who have trained hard for a PB attempt have looked at the weather before and though "It's hot but I think I'm fit enough to hang on" and not adjusted pace accordingly, I know I have. Phily was there to get a qualification time, so she was never going to start conservatively.
Even when you look at other top Brits, you see underwhelming performances. I expected Eilish to run 2-3mins quicker, same with Alex Yee, but hard to judge as both on debut. An example from those with experience would be Phil Sesemann who was over 4.5% down on his PB, compared with Phily who finished just over 3% down on her PB.
People seem to dislike her and therefore question her running ability / elite status but the following two statements can both be true:

There were a good few posts saying how arrogant he comes across.
I'm just highlighting that I don't think he's particularly arrogant at all.

She is elite - no one seems to question this. People, do however question is she is a contracted, professional runner.

what a load of BS
Cole MF Gibbens smashed his goal
no-one died by 10-15mins unless they ran like an utter donkey/gave up
conditions werent that bad, but more people than usual seemed to get caught up going out to hard and faded (i am someone who ran between 2:25-2:30)
Sesemann had a stinker, but at least he finished unlike many other GB elites (Rowe, Mellor etc). Philly ran about the time you would expect without a pacemaker all the way. shes not truly elite and on running ability alone would be unsponsored

I disagree. Conditions were tough. I've run lots (and lots) of marathons and the sun exposure (more so than heat) made that harder than some of abroad hot marathons I've done.
Massive kudos on you for the sub 2:30 & hitting your goal. You're either heat acclimatised or fitter than you think, I recon.
I was 14 days off back of 24 hour race, shooting for a 2:29 and ran 2:32. The oddity is I basically always running at sub 5:43/mile pace but had to go to the toilet/walk a few times in the middle of the race. Before this I've never walked in a marathon (stopped to throw up, blown up to a jog, but never walked). I think conditions did play a significant role, meaning Philly/Eilish results are good (and Coles even the more bafflingly amazing).
Around my trianing mates/"running friends" , pretty much 80% ran a 5-15min positive split.

Except the fact a hobby jogger from the forum who is 41 and running his first marathon managed to cope fine and run a 2:24? It's easy to have confirmation bias on the back of ones own bad performance.

One of the club athletes from Serpentine has put together a spreadsheet of who slowed the worst out of the top 500 club athletes at London Marathon. I would share it but dont want to dox myself
That being said, the 5 worst slow-downs (in the top 500 club runners) were:
Whilst it was warm, London is usually a minimum of 8-10mph winds typically from West to East i.e. typical headwinds from miles 3-11 and 19-25. 1-2mph winds effectively negated the usual headwinds. The conditions were not bad by any stretch.
