I think The Running Channel is just fine. They're very much catering towards those that are not necessarily super into running and that's totally fine. I like the diverse cast of TRC - Andy has a very interesting background and is really quite smart, and Rick provides good comic relief. Most of the others are pretty good, too. I just don't like Jess.
I also like TRC for the most part. That's kind of my point. I think TRC and the individual creators who are often criticized here all make content for a similar audience -- hobby runners. Which is why it's strange TRC doesn't get flack when channels like Felton's and Bowden's do. The criticism also often seems quite personal, which I don't see directed at the TRC presenters either. It makes me think people just find individual creators easier to bully because they're on their own.
I don’t watch TRC but if a video does automatically load it’s usually like a video version of a runners world article, just surface level stuff. I’m sure people on here were criticising the girl from TRC who failed to run a sub 20?
Problem with these YouTubers is they position themselves as some sort of informative figure on all things running related specifically training and never follow any of the advice they give themselves. The whole of the UK knew it was gonna be hotter than usual on Sunday and it seems like hardly anyone except Cole started conservatively or adjusted goals. (I don’t include Philly in that as she is actively trying to qualify for teams and so it makes sense to swing for the fences and hope it goes well)
PS. New Crown My Run vid just dropped. Great entertainment as always.

Anna from TRC a few years ago set herself a target of 3h30
I like your analogy of a Runners world article. She had all the gear, and all of the experts, but none of the idea. I watched a couple of them at the time. It was clear she needed to lose some timber. Not as she tried to play it as some kind of weird misogyny, but because running that fast requires you to be as light as possible.
It was also clear very early that she was no where near able to run that time. That was another TRC failed attempt. Then she did some ultra stuff and wasn't anywhere near the times she wanted.
Then I saw that one of their other staffers got injured and was out for months/years. And I just wondered what exactly they were up to?
IIRC, TRC was set up by Youtube themselves to try and cash in on the running fad. Much like they set up Global Cycling Network originally before it got sold off.
Shoetubers get to race in the newest shoes months in advance of their release. It's important that they get their expert opinion out to the masses. The NB SC Elite 5 is on the block right now.
I can't remember who the athlete was, but there was an Adidas athlete on The Drop who didn't have the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, but Thomas four-hour-marathoner had a pair.
Phily has mentioned this big swing line many times in interviews and social media its clearly a spin she decided to pit on it.
In real life would think she is understandably devastated after spending most of this year training here and in America for this event and not hitting her main goals.

It's because it seems less like you're making yourself the center of all things important and what the events revolve around if you're part of a group.

Agree to disagree, I guess. I don't get the sense that they're presenting themselves as any more of an expert than TRC does, but TRC gets a pass for some reason. I'm not saying any of these people (indiv. creators or TRC) should be criticized, mind you, just that they're treated differently when their content is similar, with the exception that indiv. creators share more vlog content, which is expected since their channels are about their individual journeys.
I also didn't know that TRC was set up by Youtube themselves. That's really interesting. Is there a source for that?

You seem to want to keep going on about this, so let me put it this way:
TRC does not come with any pretentiousness or elitism. Many of the individual YouTubers do, or at least have some of those tendencies. I think you can also make the argument that creating a Youtube runnel channel all about yourself is inherently self-focused, whereas TRC is not just about the group of runners who are hosting it, but they are also much more focused on others: a lot of their content is general running news, answering questions from their audience, organizing a regular run club for free, helping people achieve a 10K PB etc.

Not at all, I actually intended to drop the subject in my last post, which was why I said agree to disagree. Like I said, I watch travel and food vloggers and kind of consider running youtubers as part of the vlogger genre rather than anything educational. You mention things like organizing run clubs, but some of these youtubers organize shakeout runs and then get called arrogant (why do they think people would want to join their run?). TRC answers emails on their podcast, but these guys do Q&As from their subscribers and respond to comments. What's the difference? They don't have the resources that TRC has, so I can't see how they could broaden the scope and depth of their content. To be honest, since solo creators are doing everything on their own and don't have people to write scripts, manage sponsor accounts, and edit videos for them, I'm more likely to give them a break and the benefit of the doubt, similar to a small local business vs. a larger corporation. That's just my view and I said I'm fine to agree to disagree.
I've read some dumb stuff I'm my time , but people trying to suggest Philly didn't come 3rd as there was a slightly quicker time in the mass start event are due real credit. We need more ppl like you around to brighten up life and make the rest of us feel better about ourselves.
Go out and try running a marathon alone vs with a big pace group of same level or better runners pacing ppl.
I don't know why I'm trying to explain this , the same geniuses are saying Philly only ran well in Berlin as she had a pacer lol .. are the same Einsteins wondering how the women's only world record that was broken is different to the actual world record? ....want to hazard a guess and maybe, just maybe apply the logic you have right in front of you to the London race .
I also saw someone say ,well Sawe ran well and try and equate that to YouTubers and Philly.. tell me you didn't watch the race without telling me. Didn't see the pacers and large group of elite men then .
I think Tattle life ppl have infaltrated this thread as the level of running knowledge is astoundingly low
EddBudd is up trying to explain away his poor performance. No mention of the fact he went out too fast for his fitness, so we’ll gloss over that. He’s pleased with his performance up to 20 miles though, so that’s good.
Yeah but he conveniently left out the part about he was already married (to someone his own age) with two kids at that point
Oh yeah I listened to that episode and thought it was a bit weird. Thomas has 2 teenage boys but there was no mention of their mother before he married Meg (not that I think they owe listeners this info but if you start talking about your life story something as significant as relationships resulting in children is odd to leave out.. especially since he talks about his boys a lot).
i think it's because they're not on good terms. the ex-wife sued him again for more child support after the original divorce settlement around when he started making so much more money after BITR took off

Yeah he was also married once before that too (first divorced filed in ‘05, second divorced filed in ‘15 and that one had the modification which was hotly contested with lots of financial information and not settled until ‘19). Married Meg in ‘16.
TRC are following a very similar path to GCN, although maybe a bit more of a range of "relatable" hosts, whereas early GCN almost all the hosts were high level/elite cyclists.
The channel is a mix of quick (although longer now on TRC as YouTube favours longer videos) videos that are "evergreen" and anyone starting running at any point will come across. There's some classic GCN videos that have existed for probably >10 years, that must do huge numbers because they're basic searches that cyclists go for when doing some DIY or getting a new bike.
There's series in which the hosts are the subject and aiming for goals. In cycling (and with the hosts being almost elite already) these are one of videos about specific races or cycling trips; Unbound, LEJOG, bikepacking etc. TRC & running (along with "relatable" hosts) are able to set time based goals for a series, as that's more applicable to running, but it's still content about the hosts in addition to the evergreen content.

Ouch. So sounds like he left the wife he had two kids with for someone younger=Meg. That's pretty eww..yeah I wouldn't share that info online either.

the whole womens elite field in london was an utter embarasment, excluding pacemakers, i believe there were around 16 starters. it was a dreadful spectacle on the TV, has there ever been so few entries?
few brits appear bothered by it as they arent good enough to be in a race and know it will be a solo plod. do they offer any respectable british only prize money?
they either need to mix it with the men or invite more european/asian 2:20-2:26 types to make it worth while. surely the other marathon majors do not have such a small and mediocre elite ladies field.
holly archer running 2:39 was predicatably dire. shes never ran a marathon and not done anything at half to suggest a hope of running 2:25 or faster, was completely out of her depth but somehow wangled getting a personal pacemaker for 16 miles

A lot of the women, including the world record holder, DNS. I think there were 9 of 13 finishers who ran sub 2.26 - which is fast!
Not sure why they allowed Holly into the elites. She always had the goal of running the time she did - would be way better for her in the mass start. Overall, she seems fine though.

Agreed, she'll moan about hot weather but Rose Harvey ran 5 and a half minutes faster.
Maybe if she stopped grifting she could train better.
Not a good look for On shoes when there's non-elites running quicker
Hopefully she'll just retire, after the fake "it doesn't matter to me videos x 10"
I just question the couch for not encouraging her to modify her approach for the weather. We’re all encouraged to do it, why does that not apply to the elites?
