Ok, but I think Trump is accomplishing some things this time. I mean, maybe some of this is just theater (b/c it is difficult to imagine we can afford to fly illegal immigrants back in any numbers that matter), but theater can be useful.
I think a significant part of the border issue is about perception--do people believe that it is worth their time to hike through the Darien and sneak across the border.
In his first term, he attacked problems that would take adults to handle, such as getting Mexico pay for a wall, or making a new healthcare system.
But this time he is attacking much simpler issues, ones more in line with his unfortunate mental and emotional handicaps, and I am happy to see that.
He is making significant changes (both theatrical and more substantial) in how illegal immigrants are handled, and I think this can be a useful step towards reducing the incoming flow at the border.
