But if Obama had said that to a Fox News reporter, we know how the right would have responded.
When it's their guy (because of course it NEVER would have been Obama) we hear crickets.
Thing is, of course, that it's not necessarily just "the right" (presuming that one means the slightly farther reaches of the right). The weeks and months of the, "Sure, I'll be an open authoritarian administration" go on, the approval rating never dips a whole lot (if at all).
We're a country where somewhere between 45 and 50% of the population is OK with a felon, authoritarian, pathological liar, etc., etc.
We wake up everyday hoping that SOMEHOW that will change.....but yeah, it probably won't.
As always, I think, a truly good American's only hope is that selfish financial concerns get at least a few people to vote in civically responsible ways.
But it looks like it will NEVER be because a majority of this country is civically responsible (or, for that matter, ethical, moral, etc.).
Speaking the SLIGHTLY farther reaches of the right, it's amazing every once in a while to remember that a significant fraction of Americans who define themselves as "CHRISTIANS" (!!!) think that (freakin') Donald Trump should lead our country.
Or ANY-THING.
ALMOST makes one suspicious about their faith and goodness......

Do you know how you made Kash Patel and other podcasters quite wealthy as podcasters by buying into his rants that the Epstien Files would be released and would reveal a deep state trafficking operation run by the left?
How do you feel about Kash as head of the FBI now in front of congress saying that there is no credible evidence that Epstein trafficked underage girls to anyone but himself? All the perps simply don't exist now.
Are you kids buying what Kash is selling you?
Well, among a few hundreds or thousands of other like examples, they're the people who believe that the guy who encouraged, was entertained by, praised, and then pardoned dozens or hundreds of people who beat cops is for "law and order," so.......
Yeah, they're buying it.....of course.
And it just occurred to me how extra absurd it is for the Trumpers to currently be preaching about hate. Imagine being talked into hating "liberals" enough that you literally believe and ardently support ANYTHING that the most transparent liar in history tells you? That's a LOT of hate to fuel that level of stupidity and SELF-hate.
1. On November 5, 2024, President Trump won the 2024 Presidential Election over Vice President Kamala Harris in historic fashion, emerging victorious in both the Electoral College and the popular vote, and securing a resounding mandate from the American people. President Trump trounced Harris with 312 electoral votes and a sweep of all seven “battleground” states. This victory was remarkable for many historic reasons, including because President Trump had to overcome persistent election interference from the legacy media, led most notoriously by the New York Times.
2. With the overwhelming victory, President Trump secured the greatest personal and political achievement in American history. All across our country, Americans from a wide array of backgrounds saw the truth about him and voted accordingly—the same truth that the New York Times refused to recognize as it continued spreading false and defamatory content about President Trump.
3. There was a time, long ago, when the New York Times was considered the “newspaper of record,” and its editors dutifully adhered to the motto “All the News That’s Fit to Print.” Those halcyon days have passed. Whatever the historical merit of this self-congratulation, the Times has betrayed the journalistic ideals of honesty, objectivity, and accuracy that it once professed. Today, the Times is a fullthroated mouthpiece of the Democrat Party. The newspaper’s editorial routine is now one of industrial-scale defamation and libel against political opponents. As such, the Times has become a leading, and unapologetic, purveyor of falsehoods against President Trump on the legacy media landscape.
Sometimes it is difficult to tell. Are you mocking Trump by posting those words?
Funny you ask this, because before that string, he posted:
BESSENT: President Trump is very sophisticated economically, and I think he has been right at almost every turn.

Sorry, I didn't write that clearly enough:
1) A significant fraction of Americans are "Evangelical Christians." I don't know the number, and I don't care enough to look it up, but it's obviously an appreciable chunk of Americans.
2) OF THAT (fine) group, a huge majority believe that Trump should lead our country. Holy f***** cow.
I don't know what the percentage is (another thing not worth wasting a few moments of my life over), but since the GOP approval rating of Trump is somewhere in the neighborhood of 90%, easy to imagine that it's even higher among those fine "Christians."
As a fairly conservative person, it was always easy to believe that the self-righteous liberals were TOO judgemental about the Evangelical Christians, especially, perhaps, after the corrupt pastor scandals of the 1980s. They were painting with too broad a brush, right?? But like so many other things regarding "conservatives," they turned out to be awfully correct.
Random thought: I believe that we have entered at least the fringes of the authoritarian forest. Perhaps past that. If one roughly agrees with that, then I think it fair to judge the living ex-presidents as being damn close to objectively negligent in using what's left of their pulpits to do something about it.
Just not sure whether I'd put Bush Jr. or Obama at the top of that list?
Would the Founders not be ashamed at how little they seem to be doing about what has happened, and what more is certainly coming?

Speaking of Evangelicals, one thing that I got wrong is their relentless desire to squash abortion. I always believed this was the glue that held them to a "flawed vessel" like Trump. Because of that, I thought Trump would implement a nationwide abortion ban. Like Project 2025 says. And like they all want.
But since Trump got into office, that is 100% a non issue. Nothing. Zippo. Not even the hard right lawmakers are talking about it. Do evangelicals not care about it anymore? I doubt that.
Here is my hot take on that. I believe that the right wing ecosystem will always dictate to the right wing voter what the hot issue is at all times and not visa versa. If they need to pull that nationwide abortion thing out again, then the evangelicals will get back to fighting for it. But until they are told to do so, they don't really care.
1) Trump doesn't give 2 shi** about kids starving to death and being blown up amongst the rubble in Gaza.
2) By and large, Americans don't give 2 shi** about kids starving to death and being blown up amongst the rubble in Gaza.
3) By and large, the World doesn't give 2 shi** about kids starving to death and being blown up amongst the rubble in Gaza.
Arab leaders also don't care about it - they're angry about Israel (especially the unprovoked bombing of Qatar) but care nothing about Palestine. So why should we?
NBC: "Arab states have been much less vocal, with Egypt and Jordan even cracking down on pro-Palestinian protests and activism, fearing they could turn against the country’s leaders, experts say."

So Trump is flawed for speaking a different opinion but you are good because you think he is fair game to be murdered over it
got it. I’m starting to understand maniac logic.
the liberal logic where everyone on Earth is fair game to be murdered, because nobody’s opinion is shared by everyone.
What is a "significant fraction"? If its just a fraction, can it mathematically be significant in these examples? Perhaps a better phrase would be "small, but loud percent" are evangelical Christians.
It seems that organized religion is losing numbers every year and atheism is making gains. Seeing all the world has to offer these days its not surprising.

A strong argument could be made that Trump has replaced the biblical leader of the US evangelical Christian church.
Ask yourself, whose teachings take priority over the others in the hearts of evangelicals?

Yes but atheists rot in h*ll, which is why your little stat will soon turn around as TP USA has the gavel for the kids now.
Awesome post! But I don’t think you appreciate why.
Numbers are going down because those that are actual going to h*ll have been using their massive bully pulpit of media and our educational institutions to brainwash kids that it doesn’t matter, and that if you think otherwise, then you are fair game to be murdered, in cold blood.
But you all done woke the giant up and ripped off your masks on this move, and your justifications for murder for speaking.
now these numbers will reverse. over 30,000 new chapters filed and growing.
if I need to explain Christian denominations to you then there is no help, your fate is sealed. look up “faith” in the dictionary and keep your fkng guns at home because you all are not stable enough to have them.

Can you please highlight or reply to a post here where anyone has said murder is fair game for someone they disagree with? There must be many since you keep claiming it. Other than your own posts of thinly veiled threats which echo Trump's statements, of course.

Two out of every five self-identified American evangelical Christians attend church, on average, once a year--or less frequently.
What is an evangelical? Ask a hundred different scholars and you'll get a hundred different answers. It's a notoriously slippery term (at least a little
To borrow a phrase, many of those folks have a "God-shaped" hole in their hearts, and they have filled it with Donald Trump and MAGA.
To answer ORG's question: Take a look at what these Trumpian evangelicals say and do. Those data make it clear as to whose pronouncements have primacy in their hearts. Their embrace of hate for The Other should remove any doubts.
