A Bradenton, Florida, man was killed Friday evening after being struck by a pickup truck while walking down the street, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The suspect, who FHP said is in the country illegally, is accused of driving under the influence, getting into two crashes and fleeing the scene both times.
At around 8 p.m., the 46-year-old pedestrian who was killed was walking north on 15th Street East near the intersection with 49th Avenue East. FHP said he was struck from behind by a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck and thrown into the ditch lining the street.
The driver, 38-year-old Arnulfo Carranza Dominguez, fled the scene after the crash. Shortly after, he was involved in a second crash near the intersection of 9th Street East and 44th Avenue East, which is around a mile away from the location of the first crash. FHP did not provide any additional information about the circumstances of the second crash.
Following the second collision, Carranza Dominguez fled the scene on foot. He was apprehended shortly after and booked into the Manatee County Jail.
He is facing the following charges:
Driving without a license involving a death
Driving without a license (second crash)
Leaving the scene of a crash involving a death
Leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage (second crash)
Refusal to submit to DUI testing
Driving under the influence with property damage
Carranza Dominguez is also facing a seventh charge, a felony violation of probation.
