Comes across nice enough. Considering he's all about the sponsorship etc he probably "needs" to run better than the other lot who have jobs, coaching etc

Do hope he can run some good times.
You can't feel too sorry for him. He still ran a very fast time - and has had some good results in the lead up to this race.
It's odd, he often talks about all this data Vo2 max, lactate tests and scientifically working out his paces, even power output tests to find the best shoes; however, completely overlooks how he subjectively feels running just 6-mins at marathon pace a few days before the race.
Ben will be absolutely gutted and he doesn’t deserve the schadenfreude, he’s not a bad guy. Do think he needs to get back to basics - there is no substitute for the massive base and strength you need for marathon running.
Rough day for Bester but it’s an aberration for him - just look at the consistency of his results. No doubt he’ll have another marathon in the calendar by next week.
So excited to see where Cole goes. The skies the limit for him.
I'm glad someone posted this. It really does beg the question how or why an old dude on letsrun who is probably down the pub right now has taken to bits the vast majority of the YouTuber UK community on low mileage in comparison.
Maybe they should stop trying to copy what talented pros are doing, forget Keyna and look at what actually might make them better. Even though sirpoc's approach is definitely not cool.
Another +1 for sirpoc. Secretly the GOAT influencer but doesn't even probably know it. Seems like genuinely a good guy as well and incredibly smart and merticlous how he trains. A shame guys will log onto Felton's hot mess of excuses when they should be going on the Strava group or the sirpoc thread on here to actually see how a regular guy needs to run a marathon.

I must admit, the thought of a guy like sirpoc84 cruising past Bester and Felton is absolutely hilarious to me. I doubt he even has a clue who they are which makes it even more funny.
yeah he's close to 15 years older than Meg (his wife and BITR co-worker). Robbe is somewhere in between them (in terms of age lol).
According to Athlinks Thomas is 54. His best recent result is a 1:42 high at the Annapolis half marathon. Meaghan is 37. Her best recent result is an impressive 62:30 on the hill Baltimore 10 miler course. Robbe is 42 and his best recent result is a 3:26 at the Berlin Marathon.
They told the story of Thomas and Meaghan meeting. Apparently they were coworkers at an advertising agency called Social Toaster.

I feel sorry for his girlfriend who quit her job to work for him. One more bad race and they could both be claiming benefits.
At least Bester has his coaching to fall back on.
With Phily I think it is more about wanting to say she's a professional/elite and "How I accidently become world champion" - It seems her entire personality is has built around Copenhagen marathon and then Berlin. She doesn't come across as the most mentally stable person and I can imagine she is smarting today.
The big issue is that they need to keep interest in their "brand" - They cant have a month off like a real pro would. They need to "find the grind" almost straight away to keep the clicks coming and this leads to injury and underperformance

Phily is deffo elite - a very good runner. We can debate if she actually is professional - e.g., having a brand pay her to run. To me she's more of a supported athlete than a sponsored one.
I get the impression Phily's aspiration is to call herself an Olympian. It would be a amazing experience. However, a big part is so she can say "Hello I'm Phily, Olympian and pro runner" at the start of her videos.

The Truett thing is suspect. You simply don’t run massive back to back marathon PRs within 6 days of each other without some significant help in the drug department. Nick Bare and his minions, with all their drugs, aren’t anywhere close to this. What’s this man taking? The only way it makes sense is if he is in 2:18 shape right now and massively underperformed at both races. Doubtful

Aka epo. It's absolutely ridiculous that the Eugene Marathon (which is a quality regional marathon) isn't testing the guy. He may well have started in corral B to avoid testing now that I think about it.
Yea but is any sizable marathon, even the majors, going to bother with testing anyone outside of the prize money or elite field?
I see prize money at Eugene is based on gun time, so you could have a point. But not like this guy was getting anywhere near 2:20.
It's really impressive to see what the body can do when your full time job is running, you have a professional coach and all the free shoes and gear you can imagine. WOW!!!!!
I think that a sub-4 marathon is not a bad time for someone over 50, but it annoys me when Thomas talks about running shoes, saying that this or that shoe is suitable for slow or bigger runners, and how certain shoes don't work for him — even though he himself is exactly part of that target group. Based on his times, he should actually be using something like the Asics S4+ Yogiri shoes, not the EVO PRO 1s. And my point isn't that slower runners shouldn't use the best shoes, but that he is arrogant in his recommendations.
If you heard Thomas talk and didn't know his race history/PRs you'd think he was a sub elite .. when he can't even BQ. (although he can run Boston, thanks Adidas!)
I'm a bit confused at the current Eugene results for Truett Hanes (shirtless jeans guy). Gun time shows 2:39:24, chip time says 2:34:45. By the way, this is truly bonkers after running 2:38 in Boston 6 days earlier, my quads just stopped being tender Sunday morning.
The race photos show the f'n guy jumping up and tapping the finish line race clock at Eugene. Seriously, what is he on?
Mad how even influencers who didn’t run are trying to get in on some clout from London. There’s a lad called “jayruns” decent runner, realized he couldn’t make it in that sport so took up triathlon and can run his way up an age group field. - plan is to go pro this year, seems to have bought a following as his interactions don’t make sense for the follower numbers and is DESPERATE to make it in social media runfluencing so would make sense. Anyways- video up about how much hate the influencers who missed PBs are getting, was asked who refused to answer as said it was 5/6 of them.. I had a look at the main players- no one has any instagram comment negativity. Man is making stuff up to try to do a f the haters video in hopes to get the influencers to repost it… social media is so bizarre.
