Letsrun legend sirpoc84 at 41 years old and way less mileage, makes all the YouTubers mostly go home crying. Makes keyna seem pointless when a guy who hasn't even been running 4 years can just drop a 2:24 on what he laid out here.
I'm glad someone posted this. It really does beg the question how or why an old dude on letsrun who is probably down the pub right now has taken to bits the vast majority of the YouTuber UK community on low mileage in comparison.
Maybe they should stop trying to copy what talented pros are doing, forget Keyna and look at what actually might make them better. Even though sirpoc's approach is definitely not cool.
Thomas BITR - 3.54.11 (I guessed 3h38 the other day)
Meg BITR - 3.08.52 (Meg is the best runner at BITR.)
I'm getting to a point where I cant take most of the shoe reviewers seriously if they aren't under 3h30. Probably even 3h20. I know a lot of people aren't fast. (I'm not either) But if you make a living at this, you should be reconsidering your training if you aren't 8min miles at marathon surely?
SUB4 FOR THOMAS!!!!! MONSTER DAY!!!
It's really impressive to see what the body can do when your full time job is running, you have a professional coach and all the free shoes and gear you can imagine. WOW!!!!!
Thomas reviewing running gear is similar to the pope reviewing sex toys ...
Lucy beat Phily's time at Sutton Coldfield at the national road relays the other week. She was the fastest woman on the day. Not as big a name as the YouTuber but quite possibly faster.
Pretty sure when this has happened in the past they don’t count the women in the mass start in the top Brit results. Phily will still count as 3rd. It’s a womens only elite start. Lucy’s performance whilst very good, is raced under different circumstances. Would have had a pack of men aiming for 2:30 that she would’ve ran with the whole way. Very different to Phily, and I think, as a lot of people on here suggested, she would’ve done better with male pacemakers.
Then please check Lucy’s splits: like a metronome until 30k and then gradually increasing her pace for a 91s negative split.

I think that a sub-4 marathon is not a bad time for someone over 50, but it annoys me when Thomas talks about running shoes, saying that this or that shoe is suitable for slow or bigger runners, and how certain shoes don't work for him — even though he himself is exactly part of that target group. Based on his times, he should actually be using something like the Asics S4+ Yogiri shoes, not the EVO PRO 1s. And my point isn't that slower runners shouldn't use the best shoes, but that he is arrogant in his recommendations.
I am interested in how the shoetubers document their disappointing results. Most are exercising fake humility on their Strava posts.
I do feel for them; putting out bold times and massively missing these times. It's a lot of made up pressure!
As annoying as Phily is, I can't help but feel a little sorry for her. She invested so time and effort into this race. It's odd with her, she did not seem to blow up - perhaps we'll find out what happened.

I mean how do you know it’s fake humility?
And what does that mean anyway? They are showing humility. Obviously they aren’t happy with their results but that reaction is probably the best way to be..
Unless you mean it’s fake in the sense they didn’t type it? Or that offline they are walking around cursing Cole and saying they’ve been cheated?
This thread seems to be any to tear down any single thing these people do sometimes 😂like what sort of post could Bester, Bowden, Felton do without you sneering at them? Imagine if they just didnt upload the run to Strava they’d get even more stick…

This is an odd reaction, so don't know why I am warranting it with a response. First, I am not "sneering" at them - the opposite. I think they are putting needless pressure on themselves. Also, I want them to do well - it's far more fun to see a great result.
As for knowing or not knowing what is true with these lot - it's of course speculation. I just get the feeling the say "what they think is right" not what they actually feel.

You still haven’t really answered what you mean by fake humility though.
A post either shows humility or it doesn’t. What’s fake about it?
Phily comes across as fake in her humble reaction. So many people were out there cheering for her and were extremely supportive so she expressed how grateful she is and what a fantastic day it was. BS. She is absolutely bloody sick that she spent months training for a day where she came out and laid an egg. She wants to crawl in a hole and die, but she's expressing fake emotions because she thinks that's the best PR approach.
At least Resiliency in Running is a little more genuine.

I don’t doubt that, and that’s not at all what I’m saying. I’m saying she managed that under very different circumstances, perhaps her splits were metronomic because she was tucked into a group running a pace she was happy with for 30k, then felt good enough to push on. Phily went with a group that ran 2:22 pace through the first 5k, probably because that was her only option unless she fancied it solo from the start. Clearly that was a bad idea and had an impact on her result. I’m not guaranteeing Phily would’ve beaten Lucy under the same circumstances, but I’d imagine if she went out with a group running 2:24-2:25 pace, she’d have had a better race. The point is, they weren’t running the same race, it’s like asking for the winners time of the B race at a track meet, to be included it the results of the A race.
True points but running a good race - a good marathon for sure - is also making the right choices and knowing your limitations and strengths. ‘Getting in the right group’, running the right pace, is easier said than done: 90% of the runners of all levels are getting this wrong time and again. Like most tubers today, including Philly, but not Sawe. And Lucy.
Testosterone and other gear is so easy to come by today it's not even funny. In the gym in my town, I overheard two college kids who are in good shape talking about their cycles of roids and other stuff. These kids are 20-23 years old, in peak shape and feel the need to take this crap and inject it into their bodies for IG and clout. It's freaking sad. So sad I even considered it at one point, but I'd rather not risk the long term possible damage.
Something really needs to be done about it.
This is what makes me sad/upset about this. Also why I think it's ok to harshly judge these influencers. Normalizing steroid use to an audience of impressionable young people is disgusting. It especially rubs me the wrong way how it's branded as "motivation" and "showing people what's possible." What a load!
All these influencers have are guilty of some level of hiding from the camera but preaching transparency. It may not always be as blatant as the fake natties withhold their stack but how many
I know people say that it's "harmless" but honestly I don't think so. The steroid thing is definitely not but even our friendly shoetubers are doing their damage. Ultimately it is just plain shady and greedy for these people who were at one point regular people but now have ascended themselves beyond plebian status.
Dude runs sub 2:40 in Boston, then sub 2:40 in Eugene less than a week later?
If anyone thinks this is anywhere near natural I feel bad for them. Just admit to the gear. That's all I'm asking. Just admit that you are enhanced so it does not give the false impression to people over the internet that this is feasible.
