Understatement of the year. Oh well. Maybe next time, Shalane.

I really hope commentators will say Meb runs for Sketchers, at least once please!

Chances of Shalane still getting podium? 13 back, but people could fall off the lead pack. There's still 5 to go
Agreed. I can't imagine a race plan that would include refusing to relinquish the lead until the hills start, at which point you decide to lay off the pace by 15 seconds or so.It'll be interesting to hear her take on the race when it's done.

Deba or Jeptoo
I would much rather watch the "chase" pack than Meb running alone

I had a good feeling about Jeff going into this weekend, and have been following him during the race (I went to high school a few towns over, 2 years behind him). Really nice guy, I'd love to see him have a breakout day today!

Desi will beat Shalane.
Her pace though the half way looked reasonable, not too fast for her abilities or too slow either. I'm not ruling out another blow up at the front and perhaps Desi could finish top 5.

It seems what she has been lacking to be a great marathon runner is the strength to go with her speed. Of course there is the possibility that physiologically she is better suited for the 5/10 but she has done the work.

Great strategy, Jerry.
Is it in pour tasted to say Shalane "blew up"?
Hope we don't say the same about Meb.
FYI, people, if you're watching the BAA feed it tends to get behind... I just refreshed it and it jumped 5 minutes ahead of where it was.
Meb will be coming up on 30k soon. Looking forward to seeing the time gap.

Shalane Flanagan
Who else wants to try to take it out hard at Boston?
Yes, the men's race IS fixed. When is the last time you saw a dozen Africans who have run 2:05/2:06 marathons simply let someone go in the first 10 miles WITH A VERY PEDESTRIAN PACE?
This is embarrassing. A fringe sport was bad enough. Now, it is no longer even a sport.
This is an incredibly sad day in the history of US marathon racing.
Mile 22 - 5:17 (1:57:47) and that's too muchto handle.
Jeptoo is taking it on the 23rd mile.!!!
2:01 mark Deba is lost. down to 4. 2:02:15 down to 2.
2:03 - jeptoo is all clear.
Shalane should remember in future races to take her cue from Obama - Leading from Behind. Right now ... White girl bleed a lot.
sincere best wishes to Meb on the hills
Go Deba!
Rita Jeptoo lays the hammer down and is tapping the pack.
Jeptoo!
