A question I found myself pondering today: Does David have any real running friends? Not family members, not people who he coaches and/or clout chases, not SWAP cult members, and not people who have agreed to make a series of YouTube videos about him. Does he have a single running friend that he links up with and goes for regular (i.e., easy and not content creating) runs with? I'm fairly certain he did the entire Western States build completely alone. Completely inside his own head. Which, if we are to believe his comments from his podcasts (recognizing he's prone to being an unreliable narrator), isn't a productive place to be.
My advice to David would be: Get a running friend! You live in Boulder, there must be someone around who shares your interest for trails. Go for a run with them and get outside of your head for once. Bonus points if you find someone who will honestly tell you, "Hey man, overdressing and running 20 miles is really stupid" or "So, you probably are going to want to cool it with the ankle weight warm-up, you look like a tool."
