It's not about hating cops. It's about knowing what your rights as a citizen and standing up for yourself. There are plenty of good cops, but there are also plenty of cops who attempt to bully and assert non existent power over the citizenry. You don't automatically have to do everything a cop tells you to just because he/she is a cop. Any order has to be lawful.
I agree (for the first time?) with GBT on his above post. What he wrote was correct.
My question to everyone is, if the police have closed of a section of a street due to an active crime scene, can I demand to enter that area and get my car? Or do I have to wait until the street is opened up again? That feels like a "lawful request."
It seems like closing the street for an active crime scene (and not allowing people in and out) is a normal part of living in a civil society. I want the police to be able to do their jobs without randos walking around on the scene of a crime.
If a city park is the scene of a shooting, can I still demand to use the swing-set or do I have to wait until they've picked up the bullet casings? If I scream in the faces of the officers who are working that crime scene, should they just tolerate it or can they ask me to leave the area?
