This is totally biased, as the BBC has been on this issue all along. The development aspects do not change a person's sex. If you are XY at birth you will always be XY. You may have a developmental issue like DSD where you sex organs are internal and not visible outside but you are still XY with all the testosterone and puberty enhancements of anyone who is XY.
What a great article, thanks. It seems that every politician who has commented on this event has no idea whatsoever of the scientific issues. Sadly, that's no surprise.

That’s silly. There is no evidence showing that there is no difference in “testosterone and puberty enhancements” presumably as it relates to athletic performance between XY DSD individuals and XY individuals.
The implicit premise of “anyone who is XY” betrays a lack of an understanding of the fact that performance-related attributes in the XY group lie on a distribution whose intra-group variation is significantly higher than the inter-group variation between XY and XX.
did those two dudes ever duke it out for the women's gold?
At least us Americans can put aside our differences about whether or not all women should be treated like full human beings to cheer for China to miss out on a gold medal as we are locked in a very close matchup for the most golds at these games.

There are some people born with XY chromosomes who have lost what Dr Hilton calls the "make-male" gene. (SRY gene)
“These people don’t make testosterone. They develop a very typical female anatomy,” Dr Hilton says.
...
He (Prof. Claus Højbjerg Gravholt) has diagnosed males who have XX chromosomes - which are normally found in females. “These men are infertile. They look like normal males, but their testes are smaller than average and don’t produce sperm. It’s always devastating when they find out. As they grow older, they stop producing testosterone in the way most men do.”
...
For example, females with a DSD known as androgen insensitivity syndrome have XY chromosomes; they produce testosterone; but their bodies aren’t equipped to process it. So they don’t get any of the benefits from that testosterone, like males do.
“The most recent woman we diagnosed with having XY chromosomes was 33,” says Claus Højbjerg Gravholt - an endocrinology professor at Aarhus University who spent the past 30 years dealing with DSD.
His patient came to see him because she had no idea why she couldn’t get pregnant. “We discovered she didn’t have a uterus, so she would never be able to have a baby. She was absolutely devastated.”
Prof Gravholt says the implications that come with questioning one’s gender identity can be destabilising - and he often refers his patients to a psychologist.
“If I showed you her photo, you would say: that’s a woman. She has a female body, she is married to a man. She feels like a female. And that is the case for most of my patients.”
When Prof Gravholt asked her why she didn’t consult a doctor about not getting periods, she said there was another older woman in her family who never menstruated - so she thought it wasn’t abnormal.
This another woman in her family probably had some type of DSD as well, and she didn't know, and was never diagnosed.
On Thursday, the advocacy group Sex Matters gave a briefing about this case - and the push for male inclusion in female sports in general that the IOC is spearheading - featuring women who are extremely knowledgable about the issues involved.

Ha, what a TERF circlejerk. They don’t have any authority and no one in authority cares about their “briefing”. It’s unclear what their goal was, but if it was discourse, it’s better served by also including experts arguing the other side of the debate.
its the first time i have heard Khelif speak in public. The voice is clearly that of a male who has gone through male puberty.
if they have made oyur gold even better, then how are you going to claim damages?
and the disingenuous bit; you never say you are a biological woman; you just say you had qualified for the competition (ie you have a passport that says 'female'). i dont doubt you have lived your life as a woman.

That is not disingenuous and it doesn’t really matter what you think anyway. She is a biological woman because she was born female. She is also cis because she never changed gender identification. She is just a woman with a DSD.

Such a bad idea for Khelif. I understand the lawsuit is for 'cyberbullying' rather than actually saying anything false/defamation. Nevertheless, the courts may need to confirm the exact details of Khelif's DSD in order to ascertain whether Musk or Rowling actually said anything that was inaccurate. Then when the inevitable proof of his testicles make the front page, he may wish he hadn't pursued this. Can only assume he is being advised by idiots.

She is a biological woman because she was born female. She is also cis because she never changed gender identification. She is just a woman with a DSD.
A third world doctor mistaking an underdeveloped penis for a vulva doesn't mean the person is female. It means they were incorrectly 'assigned' at birth (a concept you previously fully supported). 'Cis' as it relates to 'gender identity' is a religious word with no basis in reality.

All that’s just in your little head that no one cares about. The term “biological woman” is meaningless and is used only in terf and inceljerk circles anyway. She’s biological just fine.
Don’t attribute random things to me without explicit quotation.
The segregation of high-level athletics into different divisions based on gender is prima facie sexism.
There should be 1 boxing champion, 1 tennis champion, 1 basketball team champion, 1 champion in all the swimming and running distances, etc. If women can compete and win, then great. If a disabled person can compete and win, good for them. Otherwise, having mens and womens champions is essentially the same as contesting the Olympics and Paralympics at the same time. There is nothing wrong with having youth, senior, disabled, women's leagues, etc. However, labeling the winner of one of these lesser divisions a "world champion" is disingenuous and waters down athletics.
Sexism is bad, and we should take strides to eliminate sexist behaviors that run rampant in our society.

Have you ever heard Britany Griner speaking? There are also a couple of Chinese basketball players who look quite masculine. Did they all go through male puberty?
If a person with DSD looks or sounds "masculine", it is an evidence that she is a "biological male"?
But if a person with DSD looks or sounds "feminine", it does not matter because she is still genetically male?
If a person has gone through "male puberty", she should not be allowed to compete against women? But if a person has not gone through "male puberty", she still should not be allowed to compete against women because she has not gone through "female puberty" either?
