Just read the article and it says Palisades picked up some freshman who are sub 5 guys back in 8th grade. I know on paper they are 4 deep but they could surprise people if these incoming freshman make some progress. I don’t know what is on their meet schedule right now so I guess we will have to wait for state and see if they surprise everyone again.

On the Milesplit roster, Palisades has 3 freshmen whose last name is Funk. Triplets?

time trial meet with Woodbridge vs. 3 other schools. Woodbridge girls win with 16 points, boys win with 20. The boys team is very interesting; their #2 runner didn't race and their #6 returner had a bad race, slightly breaking 18 minutes. However, they have a new freshmen Joey Yamamoto who ran sub 16 in his first race. If he improves more, he could probably run under 15:30 on a fast course. If that's so, then this will be Woodbridge's 3rd year in a row of getting excellent freshmen; in 2022 they got 15:27 and 15:31 freshmen, in 2023 they got 14:35 and 15:45 freshmen, and now we'll see how these freshmen can do in 2024. The team also has some returning sophomores and juniors already approaching new PRs, and if they can step up more then the team will gain good depth. Its incredible to me that this team didn't make the sweepstakes at their own invitational.

It's a good thing that there is an independent decider (Rich Gonzalez) who can be more impartial when deciding sweepstakes. There's probably a reason for the team not making sweepstakes and the team can prove their worth in rated

One of Rich’s blogs said that 6 Sweepstakes-worthy teams requested to be put in the rated race (and one of them requested to be put back in the sweepstakes race).
Maybe Woodbridge was one of them? They do have someone in the sweepstakes race as an individual though.20 -

JSerra is still without the transfer Newman.
Mira Costa was missing 2 of their top guys who raced at state last year (Faynsod and Desai).
Nonetheless, we can expect great things from Redondo Union this year. They will be pretty much all seniors and most of the team is back

San Clemente, Great Oak, Trabuco Hills, Mira Costa, Arnold Beckman, ML King, and Crescenta Valley.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Redondo Union knocks out San Clemente (who lost all of their top 6).
For Millikan and Loyola to go to state, they will need to knock out Trabuco Hills and Crescenta Valley.

Good observation. I believe these underclassmen are being fed by a local youth club.

Last year, their freshmen Aidan Antonio competed at Nike outdoor Nationals for a club called OC grit. It's very possible that most of their new prospects are also from the same club.
