Also, mentioning athletes in other sports belittles track & field. I remember watching meets where some ignorant announcer would introduce a sprinter not by his track accomplishments but by highlighting his college football team and the number of pass receptions he had.
I'm sure a young Lebron or MJ could run a decent mile. Why wouldn't they? Great athletes in a sport where some semblance of running fitness is needed. Same for other sports that require extensive running, like soccer.

Why all the comparisons of Mu to Hoppel? They are not remotely comparable. Raevyn Rogers would be a better comparison. If she finishes last in the final tomorrow, she would likely be treated like Hoppel.
Mu used to be very popular on the boards. Rarely racing and then almost deciding not to show up at the WC does not help build fan support. If Mu was all-in like Sifan Hassan, she would probably be the most liked person on here. People are desperate for a US distance or middle distance star.
