1) All of the recently appointed conservative justices flat-out lied in their confirmation testimonies.
2) A cluster of cells is not a person.
3) The majority of Americans, by a good measure, oppose this decision and conservatives will pay a political price for overplaying their hand -- even DJT admits this.
Here is what the Justices who overturned Room said about Roe during their confirmation hearings:
Breaking news and analysis on politics, business, world, national news, entertainment and more. In-depth DC, Virginia, Maryland news coverage including traffic, weather, crime, education, restaurant reviews and more.
They all basically gave the impression that they would keep it in tact. Their responses was a big reason why Susan Collins voted to confirm them and the margins were slim.
No one has the right to destroy the life of another human. Especially for the myriad ridiculous reasons women claim. 98% of abortions have nothing to do with medical reasons.
“I need your lung to live. Give it to me or else you’re ending my life. Thank you.”
The Supreme Court of the early 1970s would disagree.
All this decision did is to ensure that the Supreme Court will rule things constitutional, and then unconstitutional, according to the ideological whim of the Court, every couple decades, going forward. The right to abortion will be back as soon as two conservative Justices are replaced with those leaning more in favor of those rights.
Yes! Liberals will always try to impose their will - ignoring the constitution - and conservatives will always try to bring us back to the rule of law. You're very perspicatious!

So you trust DJT on this? I thought everyone here hated him and that he doesn’t know his butt from a hole in the ground?
Polling after the leak showed that it didn’t move the political needle at all. Maybe that will change with it being official. I don’t know, I think more people are worried about the economy and crime.
Even if it does hurt the GOP some, who cares? If you believe it’s the right thing to do, do it. Even if that means suffering political consequences. I don’t like how Biden is handling the energy situation, but if he truly thinks it’s the right thing to do then at least he’s following through. And obviously it’s hurting his numbers. Least popular president in American history.
The states who will ban abortion will see an increase in child poverty and welfare. The anti-abortion crowd is real quick to chant about "state-rights"...until it comes to welfare, guns, and other things that fit their world view.
SCOTUS overstepped -- here's right-leaning columnist Ross Douthat ."..the pathologies of right-wing governance could pave a path to failure for the pro-life movement. You can imagine a future in which anti-abortion laws are permanently linked to a punitive and stingy politics, in which women in difficulties can face police scrutiny for a suspicious miscarriage but receive little in the way of prenatal guidance or postnatal support. In that world, serious abortion restrictions would be sustainable in the most conservative parts of the country, but probably nowhere else, and the long-term prospects for national abortion rights legislation would be bright."

Sounds like the exact opposite. They all basically gave the impression that they might in fact overturn it. Unless you are incredibly naive about the nature of SCOTUS nominee hearing lingo.

To be fair, anyone with an IQ exceeding that of a newt could have seen through their obfuscations and deflections during their confirmation hearings.
The fact that Collins is now claiming to have believed that these folks would respect the precedent of Roe v Wade show that either:
A) She is incredibly stupid for having believed them. or
B) She believes that pretending to have believed them is crucial for her reelection campaign and she thinks that her constituents are stupid enough to believe her.

Sounds like they were honest during confirmation hearings. Alito said Roe was not "settled law" and Kavanaugh said he would be open to overturning precedent.

Oh, the irony!

Hint for the IQ challenged - What exactly do you think draconian abortion laws do? Couldn't be imposing your will upon women, could it?
I was talking about the few supreme court justices of the early 1970's, not laws passed with the support of the majority of the public. There's a difference of millions and millions of people.

Google “January 6, 2021” on the rule of law.
I will, when I'm done watching the pregnancy centers burning and church vandalism in more recent news.

aren't a big % of those in poverty in big cities, which are mostly in D States where abortion will remain legal? The average poverty level by R and D states are pretty close, but the D population is much higher.

Yes, luckily the large population centers in California, New York, and Illinois will all remain legal to abort areas. However, large population centers in the south, like those in Florida, Texas, Atlanta, will likely make abortion illegal. One in five children in Texas is born into poverty.
