Reminds me oof the meet last year where Cheruiyot went out in 52 at 400 then 1:51 high at 800, he however still ran a 3:28(albeit his pacer went off at 1100 and Jakob was right on his heels)

thought this was an excellent performance given the pacemaking and the long solo effort. in the interview he mentioned a big week of training last week. he is probably exactly where he wants to be heading into Tokyo.

I too noticed the Jager hot mic "Jerry will be disappointed" but it wasn't clear exactly what it was about. Could have been referring to the rabbits. I wonder if it will get edited out of the broadcast.

Inexperienced pacing, 209m was a mistake, but easily corrected. They were still pressing to 350m, they could've got him to the bell if they eased off a bit.

Blame the pacers, blame the weather, even blame the russians if you want, he's 2.5 seconds off his goal, and his kick disappeared.

It converts to 3:32 for 1500m. THAT is his current shape.

He now has to deal with recovery, and the mental, negative weight of a loss.

Was it worth it?

Reminds me of Steve P., several day before 1972 Olympics 5000m, S.P. was doing something like 4 x one mile, 4:10 per mile there in Munich. U.S. reporters were saying, "Gold medal shape for S.P." Mean while, Yifter did a 48.xx 400m TT, keeping it light. I know, Yifter missed 5000m.

Jesus dude. You are such a blowhard. Yes it was worth it. He set a mile PR in a sub ideal setup running completely solo.

The only way this will not be “worth it” is if he got COVID.

rojo, what were Centro's splits? The article is a bit confusing; I assume that he needed a 55.2 over the final 408 meters (not 400), but I want to be sure these are 400m splits not 440 yard splits
