I think there's a large individual component to it - in current UK weather (15c and sun) I've been really struggling with the sun and my rep times have dropped notably. Absolutely tanked a long run progression in the sun as well. The other half however has been fine (both similar speeds, although she's sub elite - as much as I hate that term - and I am not).
Do people like Ben is running here or do we generally agreee he’s insufferable lmao? I cant stand the guy. He seems so boring and lame and likes he’s trying to be cool and funny in his videos but it comes off so fake. Idk why but I enjoy Cole’s videos and find him genuine and enjoyable but Ben Felton just gives me a conceited douchebag vibe lol. He comes off like he would be rude in real life or “fake nice” to someone but really he just wants the attention and fandom for people to back his performances.
Am I just a cynic or do others see this the same way.
I can’t watch anymore. When he first started making vids it was cool to see just a regular guy training hard and improving. When he got more “famous” (I use that word loosely) and started getting more and more invites from brand and sponsors seemed to get more cocky and a greater sense of self importance. They are all the same though, the only one I enjoy watching now is Ran To Japan, will be interesting to see what happens when the sponsors come calling now this is his full time job.

Interesting people say this. Ben made an appearance in some up and coming shoetuber's Kenya video. He came across as really cocky an unlikeable.
Hopefully this London blow up will humble him a bit. The Kenya trips are totally unnecessary and are getting redundant at this point (from a content perspective).
It's weird. Whenever I've spoken with people about youtubers (not just running youtubers), 90% of the time, they've said they thought so-and-so youtuber seemed cocky. I on the other hand, don't usually get that feeling.

Can't look great if some running travel company is paying for his trip!
Just my opinion but I don’t get the Kenya trips in marathon training unless you are going for the experience. For me, a marathon is an awful long way and I want to do as much training at my goal marathon pace in the specific phase as possible so the pace feels normal and my legs are used to it. Not run 20-30s per mile slower in a completely different environment and hope it feels smooth on race day.

Must be great for general aerobic adaptations - Felton got his half marathon PB off the back of it. I can't imagine it's great for the adaptations needed to pound your legs on concrete for an extended period
Letsrun legend sirpoc84 at 41 years old and way less mileage, makes all the YouTubers mostly go home crying. Makes keyna seem pointless when a guy who hasn't even been running 4 years can just drop a 2:24 on what he laid out here.
3:08 for Meaghan, which given the recent throat abscess, isn't that bad. Thomas hasn't uploaded his Strava yet.
Finish times
Parkes - 3.05.28
Fordy - 4.03.16
Thomas BITR - 3.54.11 (I guessed 3h38 the other day)
Meg BITR - 3.08.52 (Meg is the best runner at BITR.)
I'm getting to a point where I cant take most of the shoe reviewers seriously if they aren't under 3h30. Probably even 3h20. I know a lot of people aren't fast. (I'm not either) But if you make a living at this, you should be reconsidering your training if you aren't 8min miles at marathon surely?

I actually don't mind Felton. If anything I find him a bit more toned down personality-wise compared to some of the other shoutubers, but maybe that's just because he's not shouting at me for 80% of the video.
I don't put too much into training approaches or marketing, though I can see how that could colour people's perceptions a bit.
He ran sub 3 at Paris literally 14 days ago. He's just spent 3 days on his feet all day at the expo selling hats and t shirts. Which granted, was his choice. But I suspect it takes its toll on less than perfect event prep
But feel free to show us your documented sub 3 and how us mere mortals can achieve it, if you think you're a more worthy source of info
