App looks weak.
When does UNCG race next?
Can any other team come close to these two? I say yes.
Wouldn't be surprised in the least if App finished 3rd this year.

okay lets say uncg beats app with their team of kenyans plus thompson. who else beats them? That course in Boone always runs slow the first race, I don't think you're aware how good the results actually are. But seriously, who? davidson-no. chatt-no.samford-no. so who else is there really?
I don't see why everyone would simply love to see app lose, it's not like their guys are super cocky or jerks or dirty racers. I mean I understand if you want your team to win, but wanting them to lose because you're bitter that they beat you all the time and that they're coming off two consecutive triple crowns is kind of pathetic
When was the last time a 5 person team won a conference title?
It seems every time its tried, one of them either walks for a mile during the race, gets hurt, or bombs. It takes depth to win a race and having some 6th or 7th kid run out of his head.
Using your "jump to conclusion mat" probably isn't the method to predict a cross country race.
I think an important concept you're all missing is the "coaching" component of all this. Linn Nguyan still has to COACH these guys! Yes, I know they have great potential, but that's not what wins championships. One mis-step and they're done. By the same rule, Curcio has to put Moen, Soderman, Raby and the rest of Appy in a position to run fast when it matters most. Easier said than done.
I ran in the SoCon back in the 80s. In the dark ages before message boards and cell phones. I don't know why people feel the need to get on here and rant about this, that, or the other thing. Let your legs do the talking on Saturday before Halloween. I wonder which team would have the best costumes?
Everyone is always hating like it's their damn job. Everyone wants to see APP lose, just because they've always reined and everyone bashes on UNCG for the Kenyans because they think it's bullshit... but if THEIR team was the ones always winning, it would be okay and if THEIR team where all the Kenyans flocked to, they'd be hyped as well. Everyone shut up and run, plain and simple
IF people want to see App lose it's their prerogative to come on here and talk about it. Don't try and force people to not talk about their OPINIONS just because you don't like it or deem it "bashing." They have just as much right to post on here as you do. As long as they're not slandering anyone's name there is no harm done.
Having said that, I think this year will be one for the ages. We still have yet to see App or UNCG's full squads. When will be the first time they will both be going all out? If it is Paul Short that will be a really interesting meet.
Mountaineer Open is this Friday in Boone.
eh people are entitled to whatever the hell they want to say, but others are also entitled to calling it bullshit.
and on another note, when you get a 14:05 transfer, barring injury, how much coaching do you really have to do?
hell, if I was on a team that brought in a bunch of foreigners, I'd probably up and transfer, because that sends a message that actually recruiting and coaching/developing runners just really isn't a priority- and would pretty much make everyone else obsolete eventually.
Yeah if someone can run 14:05 why bother coaching them? If I could run 14:05 I wouldn't need a coach. Hell I'd just go to the IOC and have them just hand me an Olympic gold medal because clearly, if I can run 14:05 there is no need for me to run any longer because I have reached the pinnacle of human achievement in distance running. I would have no desire to run faster or have the coaching necessary to do so, because 14:05 is such a fantastic time, I can't imagine anyone ever beating me, therefore no coaching necessary.
I thought the MAC was a little silly conference , but this SOCON takes the cake for battle of averageness. 14:05 would place you somewhere around 50th on the NCAA D1 indoor list and guys in this conference act like a Bekele-ringer has been brought in.
Grow up. Run faster.
By the way, when was the last time a SoCon made D1 Nationals? All this hype for App State juggernaut and saw they were 10th or so at Regionals (nowhereclose to National-qualifying).
Emmanueal Kirwa was 5 seconds out of finishing as an All American last year at DI Nationals. Stephen Kosis in 2002. Caleb Bailey and Stephen Kosis quallified in 2003. Ian Mayne did it in 2004 (and 2005 I think). I may be wrong, but I think Kirwa also quallified twice.
That's six or seven qualifiers in eight years sugar ;)
for the SOCON, a 14:05 would be the best 5k in a while, the coach at greensboro didn't get that result- he bought it. for any attempt at winning the conference, whether or not he actually coaches him is irrelevant.
and yes app has a history of underperforming at regionals. not that they would be making nationals or anything like that, but the 10th place binge kinda stinks.
either way there aren't many teams 6-peating their conference, of which capability is somewhat relative
1 168 Paul Chelimo so 1 1 23:40 23:40 0:00
2 171 Paul Katam fr 2 3 24:09 47:49 0:29
3 175 Joey Thompson sr 3 6 24:53 1:12:42 1:13
4 172 Abraham Kemboi so 4 10 25:13 1:37:55 1:33
5 165 Tyron Alston so 7 17 25:54 2:03:49 2:14
6 167 Brian Carrington sr 10 27 26:04
5th man at 25:54. Whats the deal with Koech? If he can get his act together they would have 5 guys at 25:13 or under. Chelimo 23:40 and Katam 24:09???
This season is over. I thought App was supposed to be good this year? Didn't someone from there say this was gonna be their best team ever? Not looking likely. Anyone have any info on Moen or Soderman?
how good is 23:40 on that elon course?
What do you mean how good is 23:40 on Elon's course? I think we can all agree that 23:40 for an 8k is good on ANY course. Especially since 24:40 is rare to see in the SoCon. Lets just say conference was at Elon a few years ago and there definitely was not a 23:40 on that day. 25:00.38 won it back in 2009 by Emmanuel Kirwa and he was a great runner. So please let me say, 23:40 is FAST. Thank you!
i guess what i meant was to ask if the elon course is legit. if they hosted socon on it then i guess it is. no need to be a dick about it.
Davidson ran equal to UNCG... Actually they might have run better.
Hopkins 24:06
Pagonis 24:18
Tupper 24:49
Falotico 25:10
Lantz 25:11
Reynolds 25:14
Weir 25:22
There was good competition at this meet also. Hopkins beat some of the nations top runners, including everyone on FSU's A-Team... which is ranked #9 in the country.
If Koetch got his act together they could have 5 Guys under 25:13... Davidson already has that and their 7th man is currently ahead of UNCG's #5 by about 30 seconds.
Don't get too excited and hand the trophy over to UNCG just yet.
Wow, Davidson did run well. They are both clearly a leg above App right now. Go Davidson!!!
It's gonna be a fun year! See you at Paul Short! Can't wait to see how everyone does when the chips are on the table
Wow...regional rankings are up.

Davidson moves from NR to 9, UNCG is up to 13. App comes in at 14.
