Wow!!! Great racing!!! Fast times. I assume the time for Erichsen is a course record? Is that correct? Gustavus making their well-peaked/late season surge again, eh! What a race by deLaubenfels!
Oooh yeah, that traditional Gustavus well-peaked/late surge, I must have forgot about that!

a little bitter? are you from macalester?
Overall a good meet with times even faster than I predicted. 30th place was 26:52, exactly the same as my prediction.
Runners who ran much faster than I predicted:
Alex Horton, Gustavus, 26:28 (1:12)
Chris deLaubenfels, Gustavus, 25:46 (1:04)
John Lambert, St. Olaf, 26:32 (:53)
John Leaf, Gustavus, 26:30 (:48)
John Vallez, St. Mary's 26:30 (:41)
David Green, St. Olaf, 26:57 (:41)
Chris Erichson, St. John's, 24:44 (:36)
Eamonn Monaghan, Carleton, 26:40 (:32)
Ian Bauer, Hamline, 26:40 (:30)
Neil Atzinger, St. Thomas, 26:06 (:29)
David Swanson, St. Olaf, 25:50 (:28)
Kevin Groh, Hamline, 26:25 (:27)
Mark Hartman, Gustavus, 27:55 (:25)
Martin Mudry, Macalester, 26:08 (:23)
Very impressive, congrats to all of them, and all the others who ran up to par.
Other runners who came out of "nowhere" because I didn't see them in late season results or were running subpar:
Mikeal "Meeks" Brucker, Carleton, 26:17
Jacob Marotz, St. Olaf, 26:52
Patrick Lowder, St. John's, 26:55
Seth Rosvold, St. Thomas, 26:59
These ran slower than I predicted. Nice to see there were far more who ran better than expected than worse. Better luck at Regions:
Andy Jahn, Carleton, 28:31 (2:09)
Tim Burns, Macalester, 27:32 (1:09)
Rorak Hooten, St. Thomas, 27:35 (42)
Austin Hinrichs, Bethel, 28:09 (39)
Dan Peterson, Hamline, 27:29 (34)
Brian Sames, St. Thomas, 27:12 (31)
Mitch Vanbruggen, St. John's, 27:18 (30)
Brent Haglund, Augsburg, 27:04 (30)
St. John's deserved the win, with all their scorers peaking beautifully. I'm not surprised that Erichsen ran that fast -- I just expected him to do it at Regions where he has more competition.
Carleton had a good day. They were lucky to have Brucker make up for Jahn, though it wasn't enough to take St. John's.
Macalester wasn't so lucky. Eckstrom couldn't make the meet as mentioned before, and #1 runner in previous meets Burns choked. Good races from Mudry and Braam wasn't enough to save them.
Hamline ran solid. But they'll need Peterson or someone else to drastically improve their #5 position if they want a chance for a spot at Nationals.
St. Olaf and Gustavus Adolphus bounced back from a couple lackluster late season meets and performed much better than I expected. Bethel and St. Thomas didn't run badly, just not quite well enough when so many others had a stellar day. Looking forward to see who makes top 5 at Regions.
New course I believe, flatter and faster. Still very impressive...
What happened to Haglund and what's the deal with Vanbruggen? Haglund was running so well earlier this year and I thought Vanbruggen would come around before conference. Was he just in bad shape or did he balloon up while he wasn't running or what?
I was impressed with the overall results today though. Good day for the MIAC. Too bad Carleton didn't beat the Johnnies in an upset. Good luck to everyone at regions.
some people need to run 150 miles per week to be good, some people dont. obviously, vanbruggen detrains very easily and needs to put in the time to be great. its too bad for him. everyone has to learn there limits at some point i guess.
c-c-crazy samson for the win at regionals!
I just want to tell everyone: good race today.
just keep rockin out. rockaboyah.
it's just about bein good at life.
People should post links to photos of the race.
Anyone have any idea how much faster this new course is than the old course?
anyone got any pictures or know where some are?
the new course is honestly not that much faster than the old one...you still have the big hill than another hill out back, it is slightly different however it's not like we were running at the WIAC course....Erichsen was ballin out there...
Wow they really choked, not to say that they are heads and shoulders above the rest of the teams, but they should have honestly taken 3rd yesterday if they would have run well, nothing out of their mind. Booumeester, almost the same place as last year? I guess those middle distance guys just can't hack it...
anyone who doesnt run for st thomas wouldnt have expected them to get 3rd. How on earth is that even possible for that team? its not. they arent better than hamline, and I expected olaf to beat and bethel to beat them as well. Its time to realize something; the tommies arent good. they didnt choke, they just dont have it.
as a matter of fact I am not from St. Thomas. However they honestly looked like they could make into the top 3. They had already beat Olaf and Bethel this year...I did not think Olaf could be that high..
Yeah right, and Grizzly Adams had a beard.
St. Johns and Carleton to nationals?
